An official Star Wars video directly addresses complaints regarding Andor's lack of Easter Eggs. A prequel of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the latest live-action Star Wars television series is firmly set between the events of the Original Trilogy and George Lucas' Prequel Trilogy. With a few notable returning franchise characters, to include Mon Mothma (Genevieve Reilly) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), there were relatively few callbacks to previous Star Wars media sparking criticisms from fans. However, Star Wars recently took to Twitter to share a video that directly addresses fan criticism regarding a perceived lack of Easter Eggs. With a caption reading, "there are no Easter eggs in #Andor," the video showcases numerous items in Luthen Rael's (Stellan Skarsgård) gallery that directly reference greater Star Wars lore. Criticizing Andor For Lack Of Star Wars Easter Eggs Misses The Point

The Sankara Stones from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in Andor episode 5

Although Andor is now recognized as one of the best entries in the long-running science-fiction fantasy franchise, the series took a while to gain comparable viewership demand to The Mandalorian. Andor does not rely on famous Jedi or strong legacy characters to draw in its audience, instead it uses compelling drama through character conflict and political intrigue. Although The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett featured significant tie-ins to other Star Wars media to include Luke Skywalker, Cad Bane, and the Pyke Syndicate, Andor focused on developing a strong narrative with adept world building to recreate the feeling of the original films.

When Star Wars was released in 1977, there were no other franchise films and shows to call back and reference. The film told a classic hero's journey set to a backdrop of a galactic civil war filled with politics, desperation, and hope. Andor returns to what made the original great by plucking characters entrenched in all facets of the alien Star Wars universe and give them emotional challenges to overcome while exploring the nuances of the galaxy's various cultures and economic classes.

Although Easter Eggs are nice to have, they are clearly not essential to telling a good Star Wars story. Regardless, the criticisms are clearly arguable as the Andor video shows. Outside of Luthen's gallery, the series featured various references to other Star Wars films and shows, to include Leia's interrogation at the hands of Darth Vader, but also other Lucas projects such as THX 1138. With Andor season 2 only just beginning production, eagle-eyed audiences will have to wait until 2024 to see what new Easter Eggs the show will have in store.
