Warning: This post contains spoilers for And Just Like That season 1

John Corbett’s Aidan Shaw is returning to the world of Sex and the City in And Just Like That… season 2, and his involvement could make the HBO series’ sophomore season that much better. While Carrie Bradshaw ultimately married — and stayed with — Mr. Big until death do they part, Aidan was one of the sex columnist’s major loves. His return could be a game-changer for Carrie in And Just Like That season 2.

Carrie and Aidan were great together for a long time, but Carrie cheated on Aidan with Big and the pair called it quits afterward. They eventually rekindled their romance and even got engaged, but Carrie wasn’t ready to take the next step forward with Aidan. The last time Carrie spotted her ex-fiancé was in 2010’s Sex and the City 2, which saw the characters on a trip to Abu Dhabi. Carrie and Aidan shared a kiss, which led the former to feel some guilt over it, immediately calling Big afterward to tell him what happened. Corbett is reportedly set to reprise his role as Aidan in multiple episodes of And Just Like That season 2.

How Aidan will factor into season 2’s story remains unclear, but his presence could improve upon the show’s lackluster and disappointing first season. Aidan was one of the most genuine people Carrie knew, and their relationship, though it occasionally hit a rough patch or two, was one of the highlights of Sex and the City. Aidan was grounded and thoughtful. He was very much a go-with-the-flow, laid-back kind of guy, and it’s possible these traits will enhance the incredibly out of touch And Just Like That. His presence might be exactly what Carrie — and the show — needs to bring it back down to Earth, so long as And Just Like That treats Corbett’s character with respect, and his return with maturity. What’s more, Aidan and Steve were friends, and his return could give the devastated man some comfort and a much-needed adult perspective following the end of his marriage to Miranda.

Will Aidan & Carrie Get Back Together In And Just Like That Season 2?

Carrie’s dating life in And Just Like That season 2 was practically non-existent. For the first few episodes, the columnist and author was still processing the death of Big. As time passed, Carrie went on a date with Peter, a teacher and fellow widower, but Carrie’s heart wasn’t in it. She then kissed her producer Franklyn in the elevator at the very end of season 2, but who knows whether the relationship will take off? However, Aidan’s return could cause an upheaval in Carrie’s life. The pair have always had a strong spark, and Aidan was Carrie’s best long-term relationship during Sex and the City. His return suggests they might rekindle their romance. They will surely have a lot to talk about, especially since they left things in a weird place.

A lot has happened since Sex and the City 2. If there is anyone who can bring Carrie fully back into the world of dating, it’s Aidan. Aidan and Carrie’s relationship has always had its fair share of problems, though, so even if they get back together in And Just Like That season 2, it might not be for long. The exes might be faced with a new set of problems that will continue standing in their way of being together, but that doesn’t mean Carrie shouldn’t try. While the writer could always date a new guy, the connection between Carrie and Aidan is undeniable. The two have always been drawn to each other, and And Just Like That... could finally bring them back together for good.
