Kim Cattrall still hasn’t seen the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That... During the late ‘90s, Candace Bushnell’s Sex and the City novel was scooped up by show creator Darren Star to become a groundbreaking, award-winning, and legendary series for HBO. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Cattrall, Sex and the City follows four friends - Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha - as they navigate life, relationships, and love in New York City.

In December 2021, HBO Max debuted the sequel series And Just Like That..., which explores the lives of Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte (sans Cattrall’s Samantha Jones) as they embark on a new decade of their lives. Helmed by Michael Patrick King, And Just Like That... shocked its audience in episode 1 when Carrie’s husband, Mr. Big (Chris Noth), died from a heart attack. Featuring storylines of life-changing revelations, divorce, alcoholism, and ageism, And Just Like That... season 1 explains Samantha has moved to London and integrated her character through short text messages.

Now, Cattrall has opened up about the reboot series. Per Variety, Cattrall reveals she hasn’t seen any episodes of And Just Like That... Speaking on the reboot’s plotline of Samantha and Carrie no longer speaking due to Carrie firing Samantha as her publicist, Cattrall says, “...that feels very different than the Samantha that I played.” Cattrall has heard a lot about the reboot and says it’s a great compliment to be missed. However, the actress stated she has no intent to play Samantha ever again.

Sex and the City Carrie Charlotte Miranda and Sam

Cattrall continues to hold a profound love for Samantha but moved on from Sex and the City after the second film. Cattrall isn’t alone in thinking the plot for Samantha in And Just Like That... isn’t reflective of the character, as fans also expressed the same sentiment. Longtime viewers of the iconic series have taken to social media to voice their criticisms of the HBO Max reboot. These complaints claim that And Just Like That... failed to deliver Sex and the City’s comedic timing, poignant one-liners, and potent chemistry between its main characters.

Of course, after the announcement of And Just Like That... season 2, fans held out hope that Samantha would return. However, Cattrall has made it clear she will not reprise her role as Samantha and continues to be busy with her work on the Queer as Folk reboot and How I Met Your Father. Sex and the City was considered revolutionary for opening up conversations about sexuality, friendship, and female independence. The series developed a devoted fan base that has remained invested in the outcomes of the And Just Like That... characters. And Just Like That... season 2 has a chance to return to the roots of Sex and the City and deliver the next chapter for Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte.
