Warning! SPOILERS for And Just Like That

And Just Like That’s third episode teased a romantic subplot for Miranda in the form of Che, Carrie’s podcasting co-host and stand-up comedian, but the new character may actually be bad for Miranda in the long run. Though the pair got off to a rocky start in the show’s second episode, Miranda was continually enamored with Che throughout their stand-up set, and she even stayed behind after the show to attend the after-party and seek out Che. However, while Miranda’s infatuation with Che may lead to some intriguing insights into the character, her feelings towards Che could also ultimately backfire.

In the first few episodes of And Just Like That, Miranda has seemingly developed a drinking problem, with Charlotte even mentioning the issue to Carrie. Furthermore, Miranda also seems to be dealing with issues at home, as she told Charlotte that she and Steve haven’t had sex in years. Seemingly stretched too thin, and coping with problems at home and beyond, And Just Like That has set Miranda up to desperately need a change in her life.

Enter Che, who may potentially open Miranda up to a new world of possibilities, but might also prove to be catastrophic when it comes to Miranda’s personal and professional life. Since Miranda is coping with a drinking problem, Che’s profession as a stand-up (who often performs in bars and clubs) could further enable Miranda’s alcoholism. Additionally, in the somewhat problematic movie Sex and the City, Miranda and Steve’s relationship almost ends due to an infidelity on Steve’s part. If Miranda were to go down that same road with Steve, the results could be disastrous.

One of the biggest issues Miranda and Steve have always had as a couple is sex. Between Steve’s affair and their frequent dry spells as a couple, it’s always been a sore spot for them. With Che, it seems as though Miranda may be on the verge of a sexual awakening of sorts. Whether that means that Miranda now no longer identifies as strictly heterosexual or not, if she chooses to be with Che without first acknowledging her issues with Steve, she could end up imploding her entire marriage and life, as well as the lives of the past and present Sex and the City cast.

Che and Miranda’s relationship has a lot of potential to improve Miranda’s life—a late-in-life realization that she doesn’t identify as strictly heterosexual or not at all would be healthy for Miranda. However, in the process of coming to terms with this realization, Miranda should be wary of the consequences her relationship with Che could have on her life. With Miranda still in the throes of coping with alcohol abuse, her attending Che’s gigs in various bars and clubs could actually end up enabling her addiction further. And Just Like That is setting up to be a show largely about dramatic life changes, but, with Miranda, the changes in her life could be disastrous.
