Contains a preview for Avengers 1,000,000 B.C. #1

Marvel's Ancient Avengers return with a new one-shot that will finally the truth about Thor's parentage and connection to the Phoenix Force. Assembled during the earliest age of mankind, the Avengers of 1,000,00 B.C. were the first wielders of the primordial powers that would be passed on for generations. Now, after months of Marvel teasing a major retcon of Thor's origins in connection with these ancestral heroes, the truth about the God of Thunder's birth is about to be revealed.

Created by Jason Aaron, the Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C. prove that Earth has always had heroes who've assembled to protect it from all manner of threats, many of whom wield powers and carry mantles that would be passed on to descendants, creating a legacy of Avengers for centuries to come into the present. However, recent issues have seen Mephisto and his Council of Red seeking to destroy the genesis point of heroes on Earth-616, endangering these Ancient Avengers and securing the demon lord's rule over this unique reality in the multiverse. However, mysteries about Thor's birth have come to light due to the Phoenix Force's reveal that the cosmic force is his mother (rather than the Earth goddess Gaea).

With Thor having been conflicted about this potential truth for quite some time in recent issues of Marvel's Avengers, a new preview for Avengers 1,000,000 B.C. #1 from Aaron and artist Kev Walker has been released, revealing a new development between Thor's father Odin and his relationship with the very first host of the Phoenix Force. However, it seems the Phoenix is no longer interested in the All-Father given his insensitivity over the death of the first Black Panther, their longtime ally and fellow Avenger. Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the upcoming issue:

  • AVENGERS 1,000,000 B.C. #1
  • THE SECRET ORIGIN OF THOR – REVEALED! They are the defenders of the dawn of time. Marvel’s first and mightiest legacy heroes. But their greatest secrets have never been revealed. Until now. Witness the dark events that shatter their ranks. See how their lives come to shape the entire future of the Marvel Universe. And be there for the monumental event that reunites them one last time: the true story of Thor’s birth.

Surprisingly, this new preview seems to suggest that the Phoenix is no longer interested in being romantically involved with Odin, though perhaps the King of Asgard will attempt to change for the better and win her back, leading to Thor's eventual birth. That being said, perhaps the Phoenix's claim to be Thor's mother is simply something she wished she could have been had the past been different.

As revealed by the synopsis, the God of Thunder's birth will apparently bring the Ancient Avengers back together for one final adventure despite the fact that they seemingly disbanded for some unknown reason. As such, there are certainly more mysteries to be revealed beyond the Phoenix's connection to Thor. The full Avengers 1,000,000 B.C. #1 releases August 17th.
