Ana de Armas is a popular choice for a new Wonder Woman, but the Ghosted star would prefer to see Gal Gadot continue in the iconic role. The upcoming film, The Flash, will alter the DCEU timeline and give certain characters, such as Superman and Batman, a fresh start, while others, like Amanda Waller, will remain largely unchanged from their DCEU incarnations. The future of Gal Gadot’s iteration of Wonder Woman is, unfortunately, uncertain for the time being, but Ana de Armas is correct to say that Gadot should stay as Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe.

In her Wired Autocomplete interview with Ghosted co-star Chris Evans, Ana de Armas was asked if she would take over the Wonder Woman role, to which she replied, “Well, I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job. So you know, I think she should keep doing that.”

Unlike her Justice League co-stars, Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot never left (or was let go of) her superhero role and remains enthusiastic to continue playing Wonder Woman. Considering Gal Gadot’s definitive portrayal of the superheroine in the old DCEU, Ana de Armas, like many viewers, is right to say that Gadot should stay in the role, even if her fellow heroes are recast.

Gal Gadot Should Remain The DCU's Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Greg Rucka's Wonder Woman comics

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman has profoundly impacted pop culture, making Wonder Woman an A-list film franchise for DC and providing a comic-accurate portrayal of one of DC’s most famous heroes. Although Wonder Woman 3 was canceled, there is no reason to recast Wonder Woman herself, as Gal Gadot remains enthusiastic to continue playing her, and her iteration of the heroine remains a major icon. Superman and Batman were likely always going to be replaced after The Flash, and if DCEU characters like Aquaman and Amanda Waller can co-exist with their new iterations, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman should too.

Who Could Ana de Armas Play In The DC Universe?

Donna Troy leading a charge

Ana de Armas is correct to say that Gal Gadot should keep the Wonder Woman role in the rebooted DC Universe, but there are still plenty of roles she could play, both in the DCU writ large and the Wonder Woman franchise specifically. For now, the only upcoming Wonder Woman property in the DCU is Paradise Lost, a prequel set on Themyscira before the birth of Diana Prince. Wonder Woman herself is highly unlikely to appear, but Ana de Armas could perhaps play a younger version of Hippolyta or Antiope. One of the best potential roles for her, however, would be the modern-day DCU character Donna Troy.

Donna Troy has a long and complicated history in DC’s various mainstream timelines, but in most iterations, she is Diana Prince’s younger sister in some form. Considering the popularity of Ana de Armas potentially playing Wonder Woman, Donna Troy would give her a similar role, especially as an older and established hero, perhaps mentoring new members of the Teen Titans. There is plenty of room for Ana de Armas in the new DC Universe, but she is right to say that Gal Gadot should stay in the Wonder Woman role.
