Academy Award nominated director David O. Russell’s new film Amsterdam receives a release date and first-look image. Russell is set to direct his first film since 2015’s Joy, this time working with Disney’s 20th Century Studios as the production company. Russell has helmed some incredible movies in his career including The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle, all of which have been nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Some of the stars of these films, such as Christian Bale and Robert De Niro, will be joining Russell for his newest project.

Wednesday at CinemaCon, Disney’s Head of Theatrical Distribution, Tony Chambers, announced the title and release date for Russell’s new film. The film will be called Amsterdam and will star the likes of Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rami Malek, and Taylor Swift alongside Bale and De Niro. Amsterdam is set to be released in theaters this fall on November 4, 2022. 20th Century Studios shared the news and an image on Twitter:

Until this announcement, the details of Russell's Amsterdam have been kept mostly secretive. However, audiences now know that the film is based on a true story of three friends who became caught up in a in a mystery after witnessing a murder in the 1930’s. With the success of his previous true-story period piece films, such as American Hustle, audiences should have Russell’s new romantic crime epic, Amsterdam, on their radar this upcoming fall. While a brief teaser was shown for the film at CinemaCon, more details as well as a full trailer will likely be available to audiences in coming months.
