The hit social deception game Among Us will soon be adding a new map into the rotation of places where crew members can die horribly. The announcement came from developer InnerSloth, along with an image teasing a portion of the new locale.
Although Among Us released in 2018, it didn't become a smash hit until 2020. Between a handful of Twitch streamers playing it on their channel and a desperate need from gamers of new ways to interact with friends during COVID lockdowns, Among Us catapulted into the limelight. It's sparked memes, fan art, and has even been used to encourage voting in the United States. The game became so suddenly popular that InnerSloth announced it was halting development on a sequel to Among Us so that it could focus on adding support and features to the original game.
One of those new features is finally making its way to Among Us. In a tease on Twitter, InnerSloth revealed a fourth map was being added to the game. Although it did not confirm when the map was coming, it promised new information would be announced at The Game Awards on December 10th. Given that event's past history of surprises, it wouldn't be at all shocking if the map was made playable the same night as the awards. If not, at the very least Among Us will likely announce the release date during the show. With the holidays coming soon and gamers about to have even more free time on their hands, it would make sense for the new map to be released by the end of the year.
What New Features Are Coming to Among Us
Among Us will also be getting other new features in the near future. InnerSloth's biggest priority is improving ways in Among Us to report hackers and toxic players. It is also working on adding support for multiple languages, including French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Korean. InnerSloth has also mentioned in the past that it is considering options for bringing the game to consoles, but the game's reliance on in-game communication by players is making the port a tricky proposition.
A new map being added to Among Us will help freshen up gameplay as players learn how to take advantage of the new layout. With only three current maps, its easy to imagine that frequent players have a good handle on Among Us' tasks, vent locations, and how to quickly and easily traverse the existing maps. A new location will add a new wrinkle as players struggle to figure out who is sus - hopefully before being murdered by an Impostor.
