The game has become one of 2020's biggest gaming success stories and has found a huge audience despite the fact that it originally launched in 2018. This isn't the first derivative work based on Among Us, with fans creating all kinds of content in tribute to the deduction game. A pair of supporters have even forged a real-life replica of the Impostor knife.

The success of Among Us has been a huge surprise to everyone, including the game's developer InnerSloth. Driven by a rise in popularity on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch, the psychological deduction experience has gone from strength to strength. In fact, recent data suggests that the title is as popular as Pokémon GO was at its peak in 2016. The sudden success has led to InnerSloth canceling work on an upcoming sequel so that the studio can concentrate on updating the original game with new content and features.

Among Us can now be played in first-person thanks to a new mod from VRChat. The download allows anyone who has downloaded it from Steam to try outa remake of the base game from the new perspective. It features all of the basic features from the base game, such as the tasks and vents, but allows players to use their own hands to perform activities if they are playing with a VR headset such as the Oculus Quest or HTC Vive. The mainstream success of Among Us has even seen the game enter the world of politics, with the US general election in full-swing. Meanwhile, politically far-right hackers are spamming in-game chats with pro-Trump propaganda, although InnerSloth has promised to issue a fix for the hack as soon as possible.

The sudden popularity of Among Us two years after its launch has made it a target for fan-made creations, so mods like this were always likely and more will probably follow in the near future. Fans of the game are clearly hungry for more content and with InnerSloth being such a small studio, others are stepping in to keep things fresh while the developer works on updates.
