As an immensely popular video game, Among Us is winning the hearts and minds of both teachers and students in schools. Moreover, the game was voted the best multiplayer title of 2020 during The Game Awards ceremony that was held two weeks ago.

Among Us confidently overtook such modern gaming phenomena as Fall Guys and Animal Crossing during the race for the Best Multiplayer Game award at TGA earlier this month. That’s fairly well-deserved, especially considering how massive the player base of the title is. In November only, the game had roughly 500 million active players.

Among Us is currently taking over schools being featured in several inventive ways. One might think that the initiative is coming exclusively from students that are likely to be viewed as Among Us players, but teachers are actually involved in popularizing the game as well. According to the Reddit user Aekartzdef, their sister’s teacher was giving students coloring sheets with characters from Among Us. They are pictured as performing various festive activities like decorating the Christmas tree and building a snowman. In a different school, as shared by misterbones472 on Reddit, a science teacher specifically included an Among Us-inspired problem in a test. There’s a slight mistake, however, as the problem was followed by a picture of a mini crewmate rather than a regular playable character. As for students’ initiatives, classmates are using the game’s characters to inform each other of the necessity to keep the distance during the COVID-19 pandemic, as demonstrated by Redditor Flareexx.

According to one of the recent studies, Among Us players are likely to have some of the highest IQ numbers in the gaming community. The research was based on testing participants in verbal intelligence, mathematic ability, logic reasoning, and visual reasoning. On average, Among Us players showed an IQ of 118.9, which placed them second after Rainbow Six: Siege fans who topped the chart with a 120.3 average IQ. It is quite understandable considering that multiplayer sessions require fast thinking and smart decision making.

It shouldn’t be surprising that Among Us is being popular with every imaginable segment of society including both students in schools and their teachers. As a cultural phenomenon, the game can be useful in eliminating the generation gap and establishing an efficient and fun way of communicating. The approach of using Among Us as a bridge between teachers and students clearly shows that even the most boring information can be delivered in a playful and entertaining way.
