An unfortunate hacking situation recently led to an Among Us player losing to a group of five Impostors. The wildly popular indie title quietly released back in 2018 before experiencing a huge surge in popularity in 2020. The cooperative social simulation game tasks players with repairing a spaceship while also being hunted by a disguised Impostor.

Among Us' huge spike in popularity in 2020 led developer Innersloth to reignite support for the paranoia-inducing title. The game's last big update added a new map, The Airship, which trades in the game's usual spaceship setting for a plane soaring through the clouds. Along with the Airship came a number of new tasks, which crewmates must complete while avoiding the suspicious and murderous impostor. These pieces of busywork include making a hamburger, cleaning up towels and putting away various weapons. An upcoming update will add a particularly exciting new task, Clean Vents, which will temporarily prevent Impostors from using their preferred method of travel.

Unfortunately, Reddit user mjmannella recently encountered several hackers during a round of Among Us. The game typically features between one and three Impostors in each round, meaning they always make up a small portion of the lobby's total players. However, mjmannella lost a match to a group of five Impostors, which is only possible if the Impostor players were hacking the game. This sort of cheating completely throws off the game's balance and is unfair to all other players in the match.

Fall Guys quickly became a cultural phenomenon last year, and it has since permeated every layer of popular culture. One of the game's iconic Impostors was recently sighted inside a claw machine, humorously suggesting that it has disguised itself among the surrounding toys. The plush doll's presence among other entertainment icons goes to show just how popular the indie game has become, despite its release over three years ago. Among Us has also crossed over into other independent games, with competitive platformer Fall Guys set to add a second Among Us-inspired skin in the near future. A skin of the social simulator title's red crewmate was added to Fall Guys back in March 2021, but the new skin will feature a purple variant of the terrifying alien Impostor.

Among Us is a carefully balanced game, with both crewmates and Impostors being given plenty of activities to complete in order to win a match. Unfortunately, hackers are able to overturn the game's balance by setting up seemingly impossible scenarios. Filling a match with five Impostors gives the suspicious aliens an unfair advantage, which ruins the fun for every other player.
