Multiplayer mega-hit Among Us is coming to Nintendo Switch today, as announced by Nintendo during its Indie World Showcase hosted earlier this afternoon. The showcase is generally a quick rundown of the many smaller titles that find a home on Nintendo Switch and, as usual, there weren't any expectations of bombshell announcements for today's presentation - expectations that were quickly shattered by the end of the proceedings.
Among Us needs little introduction to most gaming fans at this point, but for those unfamiliar, the indie game smash hit was first launched by developer InnerSloth in June 2018, but didn't find widespread success until earlier in 2020. Since a surge in players that first came thanks to the game's popularity among content creators on Twitch, Among Us has quickly evolved into the de facto multiplayer party game of choice for many, and has continued to be a mainstay of streamer collaborations heading into 2021.
While the title has been limited to PC and mobile for some time now, Among Us is launching on Nintendo Switch today to expand its platform range. The oft-rumored port of the game to Nintendo Switch will finally arrive on eShop for players worldwide at $5 USD, and it's a huge get for Nintendo that will immediately make waves. Among Us recently cleaned up at The Game Awards 2020, winning Multiplayer Game of the Year alongside other awards that firmly established the phenomenon as one of the biggest games heading into 2021.
Just how Among Us ports to Nintendo Switch will be interesting, but given the game's success on mobile, it seems likely to be a smooth transition. The portability of the Switch, it's crisp display, and the flexibility it already offers with its games library should also make it a natural fit for many Among Us fans.
It's not currently known what's in store for Among Us on Nintendo Switch outside of a release date today. If there are any bonuses, costumes, or other content on the way to commemorate the launch, that hasn't been announced yet. Even if it's as simple as bringing Among Us to Nintendo Switch, however, that'll be more than enough. The Switch's portability, performance, and widespread install base make it a perfect home for Among Us - and the already immensely popular title could see another influx of players beginning today.
