Players are given multiple colors to choose from in the popular social deduction game Among Us, and as of late, Innersloth - the studio behind the game - has been announcing more releases to give players further customization options. Given the semi-anonymous nature of Among Us, crewmate colors often correspond to identity within the game, so many players view the release of new additions as significant. The most recent color to be announced for the game is Gray. This comes about a week after the previous color announcement, which introduced Rose. Although both are slated to release at the same time, as part of the game's next major update, they aren't quite comparable - Rose is a much better color choice than Gray.

The newest Among Us update is set to launch later in 2021, and will increase the maximum number of players in a lobby from 10 to 15. In a game centered around cooperation, this is a significant change, and many players are looking forward to the new possibilities an increased player cap will allow for. More information about the update is scheduled to release during the Summer Game Fest in June 2021, where players may be able to find out more details about both the increased lobby size and the newest Among Us colors.

The game has also garnered an active modding community, with multiple large-scale Among Us gameplay mods helping to make it a versatile alternative to similar social dedication games such as Werewolf and Mafia. Many other mods add purely cosmetic changes into the game, such as new hats, skins, and color palettes to choose from. Players who use these mods have been able to utilize different colors in the game previously, but official color updates are few and far between, making the upcoming release of Gray and Rose big in the eyes of many Among Us fans.

Variation Is Key In Among Us Colors

Among Us New Colors Why Gray Is Worse Than Rose

The majority of Among Us players have a favorite color, one they'll prefer to pick over others if they're given the opportunity. This, combined with the hidden identity aspects that are inherent to the gameplay of Among Us, oftentimes means that a player's color is important to their identity within the game. Rather than identifying one another with usernames, many players simply address crewmates by their color. Because of this, arguably the most significant feature in Among Us' color choices is the distinction between each individual color. While there could be two different shades of Blue in the game, for example, if they aren't distinct - both visually and in name - it might be confusing or redundant.

This is what ultimately puts Rose a step above Gray. While there's already a Pink crewmate in Among Us, the color is vivid and saturated compared to the softer, more pastel color of Rose. The visual distinction between the two is significant. Gray, meanwhile, falls somewhere between the already-existing colors of White and Black - and visually it looks similar to the White crewmate that's present in the game already.

It also fails to catch the eye as quickly as Rose does, meaning it could make players less easily identifiable. The pros and cons of that, however, are up to each individual player to determine, and color preference within Among Us is entirely a matter of personal preference to begin with.
