Crewmate colors can be an incredibly important decision in Among Us, the social deduction game from Innersloth. In games, players often use colors instead of names to refer to others, and it's one of the first ways for people to tell who's sus - and who isn't. Now, Innersloth is adding even more colors in to the mix, and the latest reveal of Tan has reminded some fans of the color's complicated history with Among Us.

So far, Innersloth has revealed Rose and Gray as new colors in its hit game. Now, the newest color reveal for Among Us is Tan, originally designed with colorblind players in mind. However, this isn't the first time the color has been introduced into the game. It originally appeared in promotional materials and streams as far back as 2019 before being cut out of Among Us entirely.

On Twitter, the official Among Us account shared that Tan already had a pretty interesting history with the game. Many fans may have missed out on this fact, since Tan was shown off in-game way before Among Us skyrocketed in popularity last year and became a part of the cultural zeitgeist. However, the reasoning behind Tan being cut from the game is actually pretty interesting.

Why Tan Was Cut From Among Us (& Now Is Being Added Back In)

Among Us Tan Reveal

Tan was expected to be added around the same time as Cyan and Lime, and was even shown off to fans in advance. Ultimately, however, only the latter two colors made it into Among Us back in 2019, as Tan was scrapped from the game altogether. This was because Innersloth didn't want an odd number (13) of colors and decided to settle on a well-rounded number like 12 instead. At the time, the developers went with Lime over Tan.

Now, however, with more colors being introduced in Among Us, Tan is officially being brought back. It's interesting that Lime was chose over Tan, especially considering Lime is one of the least popular colors in Among Us. With Tan being reintroduced into the game, perhaps fans will show whether or not this was the right call. Will Tan become more popular than Lime - or will Lime still edge it out when it comes to player preferences?

For the fans who loved Tan back in 2019, its reappearance in Among Us is probably really exciting. It's great to see such a comeback, and the history behind the color is pretty interesting, too. Innersloth has stated that more news regarding all the new colors in Among Us will be shown at the Summer Game Fest on June 10, 2021.
