Everyone has a color in Among Us that suits them, except for players who have been wanting gray. Thankfully, those players will have that choice in the next big update. Set to launch later this year, the new Among Us update will increase the number of potential players in a lobby to 15 from 10.

Among Us rose to popularity in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic shut many people in their homes for an indefinite period of time. However, the game has been available on mobile and PC since 2018. Developer Innersloth has now dedicated itself to updating the game instead of moving forward with a planned sequel to the game. The game is often compared to the game Mafia (also known as Werewolf), but with the help of mods, Among Us has easily proven itself more diverse and available than Mafia.

With all of these mods, new colors aren’t always the most exciting things coming to Among Us. However, there’s a certain identity component that comes with choosing a color. According to Innersloth (via the official Among Us Twitter account), when the 15-player update drops, so will Gray as a playable color. This is in addition to Rose, another color coming to Among Us this June. The Tweet also promises more information on the update during this year’s Summer Game Fest on June 10.

Among Us is also expanding its reach with new console editions coming later this year. Unfortunately, as is the case with most PC games, these console versions may not support mods, which would effectively take away some of the dimensionality of Among Us. The game already made its way to Nintendo Switch in December 2020. Despite the broader reach that Innersloth is aiming for, the player count of Among Us certainly isn’t a problem. Recent numbers indicate Among Us could have about 500 million players between the PC, Switch, and mobile versions of the game.

In a world that’s increasingly operating online, these numbers make sense. Among Us gives players a chance to connect and play party games together without being in the same room. With that said, there are some players who only know each other by their Among Us colors, not by their faces. In this case, the color becomes a person’s identity. This idea creates a new perspective when Innersloth releases colors or outfits for Among Us; they’re giving players new identities to choose from. Innersloth is dedicated to improving Among Us and will continue to do so with new colors, maps, features, and more throughout 2021.
