This has caused the 2018 release to become far more successful than it ever has before and has even led to developer InnerSloth canceling plans for a potential sequel to focus on the original game.
The huge increase in popularity for Among Us has had effects other than simply boosting its player numbers. The title has become a lightning rod for fan art and inspired a number of impressive creations, such as a horror trailer based on its dark premise. An enterprising creator has fashioned a real-life card reading machine from the hit game Among Us using a 3D printer and Arduino Uno, making a replica of the ID card, wallet, and card readerth at can be found on The Skeld level. Redditor hecbac posted a video of the device in action to the social media site, giving a demonstration of how it works. Just like its video game counterpart, the user needs to swipe the card at a very particular speed for it to read correctly. However, this version seems far less annoying and fiddly than the crewmate task in the title. According to hecbac, the reader uses a pair of sensors to detect how fast the card is moving and will only accept the reading if it is within a certain tolerance.
Among Us has also made headlines outside of the world of gaming recently. US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez streamed the game yesterday on Twitch, with the aim of encouraging fans to go out and vote in the upcoming presidential election. The politician has previously spoken about her love of gaming and has even mentioned playing titles such as League of Legends in the past.
This latest fan-made creation is just the latest in an ever-increasing line of impressive projects that players have created based on Among Us.
