Among Us developer InnerSloth announced a huge update coming to the smash-hit social deduction game early in 2021. Fans have yet to receive an exact release date for the major overhaul coming to the internet's favorite murder-mystery title, but InnerSloth has teased a laundry list of new features, cosmetics, mechanics, and an entire map set to launch with Among Us' upcoming patch.

Among Us was launched all the way back in 2018 and had a meteoric rise to fame during the summer of 2020. The game went from obscurity to having a playerbase ranging in the millions in a span of a couple of months, thanks to influential Twitch streamers who popularized it. Its astronomical success is largely thanks to how simple it is to learn and begin playing Among Us. Currently, the title only has three different stages that each come with slightly different "Task" mini-games, but InnerSloth's incoming update will greatly expand its horizons.

Not only will the new Among Us map take the throne as the largest stage in the game, but it will also have unique characteristics that haven't been featured in The Skeld, Mira-HQ, or Polus. Plus, InnerSloth is working on improving the game's overall experience to make it easier to navigate and play with friends. The developer published a roadmap for all of its Among Us additions on January 19. Here's everything Innersloth has confirmed will be added to Among Us in 2021.

InnerSloth is designing an in-game account system that will allow users to populate a friends list and report players, which would be a monumental stride for the title. This will enable players to easily start games with users on their friends list, instead of sending them the lobby code every time they decided to play. Plus, it will make it simpler to report Among Us players for using cheats, hacks, or abusive language in the game's chatroom. In its January 19 blog post, the developer confirmed that its account system would be the first change that will be rolled out in 2021.

Among Us New Content: Airship Map

The fourth playable map in Among Us will be called The Airship, and it will debut several new features and mechanics. The stage itself is themed after Henry Stickmin, a series of interactive animated shorts published by InnerSloth dev Marcus Bromander. It will be a stylistic departure from the game's other three stages, and it will give players a whole new set of tasks to learn.

Those will include cleaning a giant gemstone, yanking a bag of trash out of a bin, and a few more. The map will also feature shortcuts and traversal methods, like ladders and floating platforms, that have never been seen on other Among Us maps before. Players will need to familiarize themselves with The Airship's intricacies as soon as possible if they don't want to get stabbed in the back learning the ropes.

Finally, The Airship will introduce a game-changing feature that lets players select what room they start in after every Among Us Emergency Meeting. Before the update, every Crewmate was teleported to the meeting room after Emergency Meetings were adjourned. Selecting a different location will open the doors to even more sneaky Impostor and Crewmate strategies. It's unclear whether or not this feature will be extended to all of Among Us's maps or if it will be exclusive to The Airship.

The update will feature a new batch of Henry Stickmin-themed Among Us hats and skins. InnerSloth revealed that one of them would be a cyborg outfit and a top hat with a handlebar mustache, a hat tip to the antagonist in Henry Stickmin: Right Hand Man. That only scratches the surface of all of the new looks that will roll out with The Airship.

There will also be a handful of new kill animations that play when the Impostor murders an unsuspecting Crewmate. InnerSloth revealed that one of them would be a laser blast that disintegrates the Crewmate, which perfectly fits the cyborg costume. The developer didn't specify whether or not certain kill animations will only be shown if players are wearing specific skins, but that appears to be the case for the laser kill cutscene. Big changes are coming to Among Us very soon.
