Lionsgate Movies has unveiled a behind-the-scenes video for its biopic, American Underdog, which is hitting theaters this December. The film will tell the story of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, Kurt Warner. Warner’s unique journey from supermarket employee to Super Bowl champion was filled with challenges, but his support system, his work ethic, and his determination enabled him to reach his dreams. With the help of Michael Silver, Warner detailed his story in the book, All Things Possible, which served as inspiration for the movie.

Warner and his wife, Brenda Warner, are executive producers for American Underdog, starring Zachary Levi (Kurt) and Anna Paquin (Brenda). Dennis Quaid is playing Dick Vermeil, who coached Warner and his fellow Rams to a Super Bowl victory in 2000. Adam Baldwin, Bruce McGill, and Ser’Darius Blain are part of the supporting cast as well. Andrew and Jon Erwin, also known as the Erwin Brothers, are directing the film. Jon Erwin also wrote the screenplay with David Aaron Cohen and Jon Gunn.

Lionsgate is taking viewers behind the scenes to promote American Underdog with a newly released behind-the-scenes video. In the video, Levi can be seen talking about Warner’s rise to success and the difficulty of portraying a Hall of Fame quarterback. The video also features interviews with Paquin, Brenda Warner, and Kurt Warner himself. Warner says, “I’ve heard so many people over the years that say that they’ve been inspired, they’ve been encouraged, because of my story, and that’s what I think is so cool." In addition to the interviews, the video also features clips from the movie and interactions between Levi and Warner on set. Check out the full video below:

Based on the short video, American Underdog seems like it will be a must-see movie for football lovers, but it also seems like it will be a movie that everyone else can enjoy and learn from too. Questions surrounding accuracy always arise for films that are based on true stories. However, the fact that the Warners are attached to this project is a good indication that many of the details in the film will correspond with what actually happened in Warner’s life.

Even though playing in the NFL was Warner’s goal, his methods for achieving that goal can be applied to any goal one might have. It’s inevitable for struggles to emerge during the pursuit of any type of dream, but Warner proved that it is possible to overcome certain struggles through dedication and perseverance. The Covid-19 pandemic forced many people to put their lives and dreams on hold last year; American Underdog might just be the film to inspire those people to resume the work needed to turn their dreams into reality.
