Previous red-band American Reunion trailers have focused on selling the film as yet another healthy dose of naughty deeds and awkward sex humor served up as only the American Pie franchise can; whereas the all-audiences promos have been relatively tame in comparison, emphasizing the heartfelt drama and character dynamics that helped make the previous films popular with moviegoers (at least, those released in theaters).
The new full-length U.S. trailer for American Reunion doesn't stray from that path, featuring more scenes where the American Pie gang remember the good ol' days and reconnect with one another - with the occasional raunchy bit (like Stifler relieving himself in some punk teenagers' water cooler) thrown in for good measure.
American Reunion picks up with the original American Pie clan ten years after the events of the first film, when they all return to East Great Falls for a high school reunion. Many things have changed for the (formerly?) sex-crazed gang over the past decade, but other things remain the same - like how Jim (Jason Biggs) isn't getting as much action as he'd like, Stifler (Seann William Scott) is a misbehaving party animal at heart, and Jim's dad (Eugene Levy) continues on having extremely uncomfortable conversations with his son.

Writing-directing duo Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (the Harold & Kumar franchise) aren't slacking when it comes to devising new gross-out gags and uncomfortable sex situations for American Reunion, but the rest of the film's humor has been pretty bland on its own. The pair do seem to have done a competent job of recreating the sense of camaraderie between the original American Pie cast members, which should help to recapture the "magic" of earlier installments in this series.
Nostalgia could help smooth out any ruffles in American Reunion for longtime fans, as sights such as Alyson Hannigan holding her infamous flute - or the promise of a romantic hookup between Jim's dad and Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge) - may be enough to convince many people to give the latest American Pie flick a try.
American Reunion opens in theaters around the U.S. on April 6th, 2012.
