American Pie is one of the greatest coming-of-age movies ever made, with this hilarious comedy connecting with an entire generation of cinemagoers. One of the main reasons for that is because it was able to nail a lot of aspects of teenage life, which was the main demographic that the movie was aiming to connect with.

While not every aspect of American Pie was accurate about teenagers, the movie did a great job at covering what life is like at that age and the things that concern them. That is the reason the movie still remains relevant today, as new generations have been able to connect with the characters and the story as they have hit the appropriate age.

Different Social Groups

This is something that a lot of high school movies play upon, to the point where it has become a trope of the genre. However, the reality of the situation is that these movies do this because that is how things work when people are teenagers.

There are always different groups, which is the case in American Pie. Whether it be those who play sport, those that are members of band camp, and more. It's something that teenagers can easily relate to and is one of the reasons that the movie is able to target everybody because it highlights the differences in people.

Sport Is Important

While not every teenager is a sports fan, there is no doubt a key audience of people that are majorly into it and sometimes completely dedicated. That's the case in a lot of high school movies, and it is something that American Pie also covers.

This movie achieves that through the lacrosse team, with both Steve Stiffler and Chris Ostreicher being part of that. They get to be part of the team and they clearly love being involved in that, which is something that connects and works well in the movie.

Someone Always Acts More Mature

When people are teenagers, there is often a big rush to be an adult and appear to be mature and sophisticated. Because of that, in a school there is typically someone who tries to act in a certain way, pretending they're more mature than they actually are.

In the case of American Pie, that person just so happens to be Paul Finch. While he is the most mature out of the main group, he puts on a persona of being far smarter and older than he actually is. This is something that he pushes heavily throughout the movie, and it does make him one of the funniest characters.

Parents Can Be Embarrassing

Everybody wants to look cool in their teenage years, as image can seem like it's everything to people. It's something that people want to protect as much as possible in order to look as fun as possible to others. However, parents often are embarrassing, whether it is intentional or not.

That is the case with Jim's father, who ends up being one of the funniest characters in the entire movie. However, while he is hilarious to the audience, for Jim he is an embarrassment at times, which is something that every teenager goes through at some point.

Romantic Fallout

Relationships are a common thing for teenagers, and often they don't last very long. It's common for different people to be dating and then break up and get back together and worry about their future in the long term, and it's something a lot of teens go through.

That is a huge part of this movie, particularly with Kevin and Victoria's relationship, which is quite a rocky one from the start. It makes them easy to relate with though, as many teenagers have been in their spot, trying to make something work for the sake of their high school connection.

Talking About Sex

Sex plays a huge part in American Pie, with the entire concept of the movie being based around the main group wanting to lose their virginity before they leave high school. It's a big talking point, and it's not just with the boys either, as the girls in the movie talk about it just as much.

It's a big part of the movie overall, and it's typically a big part of older teenager's lives in high school movies in general. It's something that people do talk about a lot in schools, and that is something that this movie does a great job of conveying.

House Parties Rule

One of the big aspects of American Pie is the house parties that take place. This is where a lot of the funniest scenes go down and it's clear how much these parties mean to people. Everybody wants to be invited, and Stiffler's parties end up becoming the stuff of legend.

This is something that is often true in real life as well. While the parties aren't always quite as elaborate and over the top as they are in this movie, they do accurately describe the life of teenagers.

There's A Lot Of Vomit

While house parties are a big part of teenage life, allowing people to experience partying, the result of that often ends up with vomit. Whether it be the next morning or during the night, there are plenty of moments like that in many teenagers' lives, and that is shown well in American Pie.

Whether it be dumb stunts or imbibing something that they probably shouldn't, there is often a lot of vomit at the house parties, which leads to some hilarious moments too.

Prom Is A Huge Deal

American Pie, the main group at prom

Everything about American Pie builds up to prom, which is the big final moment within the movie. While the focus for the main group is on losing their virginity, that doesn't mean they're not excited about prom itself. Everybody in the movie is happy about the prom itself, and the build-up is important to all of the students.

The fact that it becomes such a big deal is something that all teenagers can understand, as this is a pinnacle moment in the lives of most teens at this stage in their lives. It's something that the movie got right when it came to teenagers and is one of the big reasons this has ended up just as popular today as its original release.

Friendship Is Everything

Friendship is always important, but never more than during a person's teenage years, where it is crucial for people to get to know each other and build up the blocks that help throughout the tough times. That is what American Pie really pushes, as the main group of characters all works brilliantly together as friends.

While they wind each other up and poke fun at one another, that doesn't stop them from being tremendous friends as well. They always look out for each other and know when to be kind, and that's what's important about them.
