Tara Reid has good news for those awaiting a sequel update: American Pie 5 will happen. The now iconic franchise began with 1999's American Pie, a high school comedy focused on one group's pact to lose their virginity. The original movie starred several actors who have gone on to have big careers, including Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, and Natasha Lyonne. Reid played Vicky, who ends the movie breaking up with her boyfriend Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), assuming their relationship won't survive college.

Reid returned for two of the franchise's three sequel films: American Pie 2 and American Reunion. Like a few other members of the first film's cast, she was missing from 2003's American WeddingAmerican Pie also spawned a spinoff series, American Pie Presents. However, as only Eugene Levy and Chris Owen from the main franchise have appeared in any of those movies, there hasn't been a true sequel since American Reunion, which came out in 2012. The nearly 10-year long gap since that fourth film has left many wondering when they'll be able to catch up with Vicky, Jim, Michelle, and the rest of the gang.

In an interview with ET, Reid provides an update on American Pie 5. The actor says she's seen the script, calling it "one of the best ones" in the franchise. Reid also states the sequel "will happen, I just don't know when." She explains timing is the biggest obstacle to getting American Pie 5 made, though the actor says she's still in contact with her former castmates, which should help:

We have to get all the actors and at the same time to get our schedules together...We all stay in touch in different ways...When you grow up with someone and you get your first breaks with someone, you can never forget that.

Reid has long been a supporter of an American Pie sequel, so it makes sense the update comes from her. Back in 2018, she said she had spoken to directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who made American Reunion, and indicated the fifth installment in the franchise could film that year. Though that didn't wind up happening, it sounds like Reid hasn't given up hope American Pie 5 will happen at some point in the future.

It's not surprising scheduling may be the biggest roadblock. Many of American Pie's stars are involved in other projects for both film and TV. However, that doesn't mean a sequel is impossible to make. The star-studded cast of the 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer notably came back together for two sequel series on Netflix, which released in 2015 and 2017. Actors like Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, and Elizabeth Banks were able to make it work, so it stands to reason the American Pie cast could do the same for a sequel. Hopefully, Reid's update indicates American Pie 5 will happen sooner rather than later.
