Jesse “Flex” Labreck has broken several records throughout her time on American Ninja Warrior (ANW), making franchise history and inspiring women around the world with her strength and determination. A former caregiver who helped take care of a young girl with cerebral palsy named Emeline Sterpe, Jesse now operates a gym in Naperville, Illinois.

The 30-year-old athlete is currently engaged to American Ninja Warrior veteran Chris DiGangi, whom she’s competed against on the show. See the cute couple below:

Although most record-breaking women on ANW have backgrounds in gymnastics or rock climbing, Jesse achieved her endurance and stamina from being a hurdler and competing in heptathlons. However, the former University of Maine track star later added rock climbing to her skill set, to increase her chances of success. Her height, 5’ 7 ½” and size, 145 pounds, are similar to other successful female ANW competitors, making Jesse almost a shoo-in for victory. At just 25 years of age, Jesse decided to bring her strength and high energy to the ANW obstacles. See Jesse in action below:

Jesse began her American Ninja Warrior journey in 2016, on ANW season 8. ESPN reported that the rookie made history during her first year on the show. Labreck tackled the Philadelphia city finals' fifth obstacle, the Rolling Thunder. This was an incredible feat considering three other women (Michelle Warnky, Rachael Goldstein, and Allyssa Beird) had attempted the ANW obstacle and failed. Jesse was also the first rookie to make it to the ninth obstacle, the Stair Hopper, during which she had to hang from a bar and hop it down and up a series of steps. Jesse was able to qualify for the Las Vegas finals but was defeated by the Jumping Spider obstacle.

After a record-breaking first season, Jesse was chosen to represent Team Matt in the Team Competition in American Ninja Warrior All-Star season 2. While competing, she became the first woman to complete the Wave Runner and Butterfly Wall. She came back in ANW season 9, during which she became the sixth woman to complete the qualifying course in Cleveland. She became one of only two women (Jessie Graff) to land a spot in the top 15 during a city finals course. Season 10 saw Jesse become the first woman to complete the Spin Hopper and the first woman to attempt the 18-foot Mega Wall during the Indianapolis competition. During city finals, Jesse became the first woman to ever get past the Clacker obstacle. In season 11, she beat out her fiancé in the qualifying round, completing the Sling Shot and finishing in sixth place. For the second season in a row, Jesse was the last female competitor standing.

2020 doesn’t seem to be any different for Jesse. She continues to showcase her abilities throughout the courses and set records. On night two of qualifiers, Jesse set two buzzer records. This was the fourth qualifying buzzer in a row for the athlete and the longest consecutive qualifier streak for female competitors. Overall, this was her fifth buzzer, meaning she has more than any other woman in ANW franchise history. Fans will have to tune in to see how many more records Jesse breaks on American Ninja Warrior this season.
