Sofia Carson was a guest performer during season 19 of American Idol. She graced the stage singing  Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” along with the top 9 during Disney Night. Aside from singing, Sofia Carson, born Sofía Daccarett Char, is a 28-year-old Columbian-American actress and songwriter from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In 2015, Sofia starred alongside Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart, and the late Cameron Boyce in Disney’s Descendants. In her film debut, she played Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen from Snow White. Though she previously guest-starred on Disney’s Austin & Ally, her role in the aforementioned musical fantasy film began her Disney career, and she went on to play the character again in two more films and an animated spinoff series called Descendants: Wicked World

Sofia also starred in the Disney remake of Adventures in Babysitting and the movie, A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits. Most recently, she was part of Netflix’s dance film, Feel the Beat, and the COVID-19 film, Songbird. In 2019, she acted in the short-lived Pretty Little Liars spinoff, The Perfectionists. She also did voice work on the animated series Elena of Avalor and participated in Disney’s Family Singalong singing “We’re All in this Together” from High School Musical. Her work got her nominated for multiple awards between 2016 and 2019, including Best Supporting Actress and Choice Drama TV Actress for Descendants 2 and The Perfectionists, respectively. 

Her Instagram account, @sofiacarson, has more than 16 million followers and she has over 1,600 posts. These posts include updates on her future projects, such as her upcoming film Purple Hearts – a young adult romance starring herself and Charles Melton. She is also the global ambassador for Revlon as of 2020 and promotes its lipstick and mascara with her line, Revlon x Sofia. Her account consists of numerous professional photos of herself modeling, performing, or walking the red carpet at award shows and movie premieres. She gathered over 2 million likes on a photo where she said goodbye to her iconic Descendants character, and her posts in remembrance of Cameron have gotten between 1 and 4 million.

With a successful music career, Sofia is set to write and perform music on the Purple Hearts’ original soundtrack. Her singing has earned her a #1 Billboard album in the United States, two RIAA Gold-certified albums, and over 1.5 billion total streams. Her newest single,“Fool’s Gold” debuted May 1 and reached #38 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay Chart. But in addition to a blooming discography, Sofia has performed on more shows than just American Idol. She sang at the 2015 and 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, ABC’s Disney Parks Christmas Celebration, and the 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards to name a few. In 2017, she performed "The Star Spangled Banner" at the United States Capitol in celebration of Independence Day.

Sofia performed with nine contestants who have hopes of becoming the next American Idol. Maybe one of them will be as big as Sofia one day. She called her appearance on the show “a wish come true.” “Thank you from the bottom of my heart [American Idol],” she said. “Honored to have opened your show. Honored to have shared the stage with your extraordinary top 9. Pinch me please.”
