When American Idol season 8 premiered in January 2009, viewers were introduced to Adam Lambert, who was then 26 years of age, and it's time to talk about what he's up to in 2022. He impressed the judges (as well as the American viewers who voted), and made it all the way to the finale. However, ultimately, he finished the AI competition as the runner-up, behind Kris Allen. Now, many people are wondering how the former Idol finalist is doing.

After his American Idol experience, Adam signed a record contract with 19 Recordings/RCA. He then went on to release his debut album, For Your Entertainment, in November of 2009. The album was a commercial success for the up and coming artist, as it reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold 198,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week. However, Adam's success didn't stop there. Since 2011, Adam has been the frontman for Queen.

Now, according to Music Times, Adam's working on a theatre production and accompanying concept album. While discussing the projects, Adam stated, "I am working on a new album a concept album for a musical actually that I am creating so that should be coming out probably next year. I will be the star of the album it will be my voice so yes my album will be, that will be all me." The AI alum says he's working with big-name artists, but he's currently staying quiet about who they are.

Even though Adam is branching out creatively, it doesn't seem like he is going to stop touring with Queen anytime soon. He even hoped to record some new music with the band, but it seems like another member of the group, guitarist Brian May, suddenly lost interest in doing so. There may also have been a small disagreement about the lyrics for one of the songs the band was working on. However, the group and Adam will still continue to tour together, despite any differences. New music may come in the future, but only time will tell if that is the case.

Despite not winning American Idol 13 years ago, Adam has made quite a name for himself after the show. He joins fellow contestants, such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson, who have impressive resumes. Only two out of the four were winners of the reality singing competition. This just goes to show that aspiring singers shouldn't give up on their dreams, as anything can happen. AI contestants don't necessarily need to win to become successful. While winning is positive, some of those who haven't won have achieved greatness. Adam is living proof that you can follow your dreams, even if you didn't get the outcome that you wanted.
