American Horror Stories will mark the first direct spinoff to the original series. There's no question that American Horror Story has been one of FX's most popular series since its debut in 2011. Seeing as American Horror Stories is still in the early stages of development, there's no word regarding a possible release date. New seasons of the original horror anthology typically premiere in mid-September to early October. It's likely that FX would like to keep that schedule with future American Horror Story installments. That said, the network might want to balance the horror content by giving the spinoff a spring debut. They may also want to use American Horror Stories as a summer series to lead viewers back to the mothership in the fall season. Of course, the current coronavirus pandemic could throw a wrench in any kind of production timetables but we'd expect American Horror Stories to debut before the end of 2021.

When Murphy shared the news about an American Horror Story spinoff, he mentioned discussing the plans with some of his horror anthology's most popular veterans. That insinuates that he intends to have familiar faces star in his episodic anthology. If that truly is the case, viewers can expect to see actors like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, and Billie Lourd. In addition, it wouldn't be surprising to see some newcomers make their American Horror Story debut. Murphy could look to some of his other projects like Hollywood, The Politician, 9-1-1, or Pose to gather more stars.

Details surrounding American Horror Stories are still sparse but Murphy mentioned that each episode would focus on an individual ghost story. It seems likely that the spinoff will dive into real-life hauntings or legendary supernatural occurrences. There is also the possibility that the show could revisit aspects of previous American Horror Story seasons and take a fictional approach by expanding on a certain event. If this turns out to be the case, the spinoff could feature actors reprise some of their past characters or tie together multiple seasons while still serving as a standalone tale to new viewers. Stay tuned for any new details as Murphy continues to unveil his plans.
