As American Horror Story fans patiently wait for season 8, a new rumor suggests that the show's apocalyptic setting will take the series to the year 2032.

Ryan Murphy's horror anthology continues to be a big hitter for FX, and now its eighth year, American Horror Story still boasts one of the most impressive casts on TV. The horror anthology still remains fresh by pressing the reset button every year, while season 8 promises to continue the tried-and-tested formula. Recent reports teased an apocalyptic setting under the season subtitle Radioactive, and the latest news adds fuel to the fire.

According to Twitter account AHS Central, the dystopian horror has been narrowed down to a precise date of 2032 and also a rumored location of Arizona:

Apparently set in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion, it sounds a lot like AHS season 8 will be taking some big influences from the likes of Bethesda's Fallout series - cue radroaches chasing a Mad Max-esque Evan Peters.

In addition to shedding some potential light on the storyline of the season, the tweet also gives a list of returning cast members. Apparently, long-time Horror Story alumni Dylan McDermott will be back for the first time since season 2 to join the already-announced Peters, Sara Paulson. The highly-anticipated return of Kathy Bates could then be rounded off by Denis O’Hare, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Leslie Grossman, and Eddie Cibran. As with every season of the show, an all-star cast promises big things alongside a new premise.

Apocalyptic settings mean big business for movies and TV, with the likes of Jericho, The Book of Eli, and The Road showing how it can be done. Given Horror Story's always eclectic cast of acting talent, it will interesting to see how all the pieces fit together. American Horror Story has a habit of setting itself in the past, but both season 6 and 7 had much more modern settings. If season 8 is heading to 2032, it will be the first time Murphy has ever tackled "the future" instead of the past or present day. Fans have long-hoped to see the show's take on the future instead of the alternate history it has imagined through season 1-7.

Elsewhere, the dusty backdrop of Arizona sounds like the perfect setting for an apocalyptic wasteland. It doesn't take much imagination to conjure up the sorts of cannibalistic survivors and mutated monsters that could come crawling from Murphy's twisted psyche. Presumed to be heading for its usual September/October premiere, filming for American Horror Story had better get started soon. Ultimately, the above are all rumored, but it certainly sounds like this is the way the frightening franchise is heading next.
