American Horror Story season 11 might be set on New York's historic Fire Island. Speculation has been rife ever since it was revealed that AHS is headed back to the East Coast this summer to film scenes for the next installment of the FX anthology series. Its destination: New York.

While specific details regarding filming locations have yet to surface, fans can only theorize precisely the whereabouts in New York Ryan Murphy intends to shoot American Horror Story season 11. This aligns with AHS's method of keeping certain plot points under wraps regarding the upcoming season, including its theme. However, reveals will certainly come to light as the series nears its predicted September or October premiere date.

Taking into consideration the showrunner's Instagram hints about season 11 exploring mythical sirens and 17th-century pirates, it's plausible to believe that producers may opt to utilize one of the state's islands as its primary filming location, specifically, Suffolk County's Fire Island; containing two villages and a small number of hamlets. The island is supposedly named as such due to fires lit by pirates in an attempt to lure ships into the sandbars.

The notion of a pirate or siren-centric AHS tale makes even more sense in relation to revelations made during this year's TCA Winter Press Tour. “[Season 11] actually takes place in different timelines," FX chairman John Landgraf confessed (via The Wrap). Part of the upcoming season could, therefore, take place during the 17th-century and feature pirates while the remaining scenes adopt a modern-day setting, with the two related stories eventually intertwining, in a similar style to that of American Horror Story: Roanoke; instead of colonizers haunting the modern-day protagonists, it's pirates instead, who perhaps succumbed to the song of mythical siren creatures centuries prior.

Though the theory aligns with the information divulged thus far about AHS season 11's theme, it wouldn't necessarily be beneficial for the series, which is supposed to be rooted in new ideas, themes, and settings each year. A season filmed on Fire Island would most certainly contradict this principle; the first half of AHS: Double Feature also took place within a small coastal setting, albeit entirely in the 21st century rather than the 17th. However, this should be of no consequence to Ryan Murphy, as he is a master of shamelessly recycling themes and ideas, especially when the time comes to pump out another season of AHS each year.

Though another coastal theme would be derivative of the controversial AHS: Double Feature, a Fire Island setting for season 11 still remains possible. Especially when taking into consideration Ryan Murphy and John Landgraf's hints and the fact that production is relocating (at least partially) to New York. As of now, American Horror Story season 11's theme has yet to be unveiled, though it's only a matter of time until audiences are reintroduced to Ryan Murphy's world of commendable production value, weak scripts, and neverending blood gags this fall.
