WARNING! Spoilers ahead for American Horror Story season 11, episodes 3 & 4!American Horror Story: NYC teases a few big revelations for Hannah, including that she may be a member of the LGBTQ+ community and pregnant with Adam’s baby. While Hannah was previously connected to American Horror Story season 11’s characters due to her scientific research on Fire Island’s deer and rare diseases increasingly occurring in her gay patients, "Smoke Signals" gives Billie Lourd’s character another close link to the serial killer plot. Not only is Hannah also gay, but AHS hints Adam Carpenter (Charlie Carver) could be the father of her baby.

The majority of the characters in AHS: NYC are gay, as the 1981-set season focuses on the rise of the AIDS epidemic in New York City and a serial killer specifically targeting the gay community. Since Hannah’s sexuality wasn’t addressed until AHS: NYC episode 3, it was unclear whether she was also part of the community while primarily treating gay patients. However, when Hannah is at the hospital treating victims of the bar fire, American Horror Story season 11 character Dunaway tells her that something is coming for “all of us, not just the boys.” The keyword of “us” and Dunaway’s reference to women allude to Hannah also being gay and endangered by the mysterious attacks.

Why Hannah Being Gay Makes Sense In AHS: NYC

American Horror Story Season 11 NYC Billie Lourd Hannah

Considering the only known patients of Hannah in American Horror Story: NYC are gay, it makes sense that she would open a clinic to help treat her own community. This also helps to explain why she’s so adamant about doing research on the unexplainable spike in rare diseases affecting gay people, as her colleagues don’t understand the urgency of the situation. Like Gino and Patrick searching for the Mai Tai serial killer, the reason why Hannah is the only doctor in American Horror Story season 11 truly invested in the virus affecting the gay community may be due to the notion that she’s in danger herself.

How AHS: NYC Teased That Adam Is The Father Of Hannah's Baby

American Horror Story 11 NYC Adam Hannah

When Adam is in the hospital after surviving the fire, Hannah helps him and confirms that the two already know each other. Adam then tells Hannah she has a “glow” and asks whether she has any ultrasound pictures, which imply that AHS: NYC’s doctor is pregnant. However, American Horror Story season 11 takes this a step further when Adam mentions that he “felt good about what we did,” suggesting he is the father of her baby. Considering Dunaway, an employee at Ascension, had just implied that Hannah was also gay, it’s possible Hannah and Adam are friends who made an agreement to have a baby together.

Hannah and Adam having a baby together adds another layer to AHS: NYC's exploration of the AIDS epidemic, as it’s possible for an HIV-positive person to transmit the virus to their child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. While it’s unconfirmed whether Hannah or Adam have any AIDS-related illnesses, the pregnancy could be a significant part of Hannah’s research. This could also be part of why Hannah is so invested in doing experiments regarding the virus immediately, as she likely wants to understand the illness before her baby is born in American Horror Story: NYC.
