The first details surrounding American Horror Story season 10 have been released and it was a major announcement confirming the installment's cast. Series creator Ryan Murphy took to Instagram to share a two-part video revealing the names of his new and returning stars. Before any news regarding the upcoming milestone season 10 was unveiled, FX renewed the series for three more seasons through at least 2023.
American Horror Story first kicked off in 2011 with Murder House. The horror series was one of the first to introduce and rely on an anthology format. Even though there was a new storyline each season, Murphy had a tendency to bring back many of the same actors for different roles. Over time, the series started to establish a shared universe with crossovers and character returns.
As of now, it's unclear what the theme of season 10 and although there's speculation about aliens and urban legends, Murphy's social media post was set on a beach. Avid AHS fans will be excited to see that several long-time vets will be returning for season 10. Macaulay Culkin is set to be the series newcomer, but this season will also be missing a few familiar faces like Emma Roberts. There's always a chance for cameos from other big names, but for now, here's every American Horror Story actor returning for season 10, which is set to air this fall.
Sarah Paulson
American Horror Story: 1984 was the first season not to feature Sarah Paulson. Thankfully, her absence was short-lived because she's back in a lead role. Arguably one of Murphy's favorite actresses, Paulson has grown into a fan-favorite, so it makes sense that she be involved in the milestone season. The actress played a minor role in season 1, Murder House, before serving in prominent roles in Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, and Apocalypse. Several seasons allowed the actress to play multiple characters. Paulson's most memorable characters include Lana Winters, Cordelia Goode, Bette and Dot Tattler, and Ally Mayfair-Richards. In addition to AHS, Paulson has also collaborated with Murphy on Nip/Tuck, The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Feud: Bette and Joan, Ratched, and the upcoming series, Impeachment: American Crime Story.
Evan Peters
Paulson has stated that she would only return to American Horror Story if Even Peters came back. It's unclear if she was serious, but it certainly worked out since the actor is another big name coming back after sitting on the sidelines for 1984. Like Paulson, Peters has starred in every season except for the ninth installment. He's another actor who has showcased his range, which is why Murphy casts him time and time again. Some of Peters' most memorable AHS characters include Tate Langdon, Kit Walker, Jimmy Darling, James March, and Kai Anderson. Peters has also starred in Murphy's series, Pose, as Stan Bowes.
Kathy Bates
Fans hoping that Kathy Bates returned to American Horror Story didn't need to wait long for their wish to come true. She last appeared in season 8, Apocalypse, as Miriam Mead and a role reprisal of Delphine LaLaurie. Bates made her AHS debut in 2013 in Coven, which was when she first played Delphine. She then appeared in Freak Show as Ethel Darling, Hotel as Iris, and Roanoke as Agnes Mary Winstead and Thomasin White, a.k.a. "The Butcher." Bates also appeared in Murphy's fellow FX series, Feud: Bette and Joan.
Leslie Grossman
Leslie Grossman joined American Horror Story late in the game but has since become a seasoned veteran. The actress first joined the anthology series in 2017 with her portrayal as Meadow Wilton in Cult. She returned the following season to play Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt, a witch that ended up drastically helping the coven. In 1984, Grossman played the power-hungry killer, Margaret Booth, and it's no surprise why Murphy wanted her back for American Horror Story season 10. Between 2003 and 2008, Grossman appeared in multiple episodes of Murphy's past FX series, Nip/Tuck.
Billie Lourd
Billie Lourd first worked for Murphy on his Fox series, Scream Queens, alongside American Horror Story alum, Emma Roberts. When the show was canceled, Lourd jumped to AHS beginning with Cult in the role of Winter Anderson. She returned for Apocalypse as the young witch Mallory who ended up saving the world from the Antichrist. Lourd also served a crucial role in 1984 as one of the Camp Redwood counselors, Montana Duke, a woman with a dark connection to the Night Stalker.
Adina Porter
Most American Horror Story viewers would remember Adina Porter for her role as Lee Harris in season 6, Roanoke, but she actually appeared in the first installment. The actress appeared as Sally Freeman in one episode of Murder House before returning to the series five years later. In addition to those roles, Porter has played major characters such as Beverly Hope in Cult and Dinah Stevens in Apocalypse. The actress has also appeared in Murphy's past series, Glee.
Lily Rabe
Lily Rabe was a staple in the early seasons of American Horror Story before she started taking on smaller roles in the series. The actress played Nora Montgomery, Sister Mary Eunice, and Misty Day in the first three seasons of AHS. Rabe reprised her role as Sister Mary Eunice in Freak Show and played a small role the following season. She had a much larger role in Roanoke by portraying Shelby Miller and played Misty once again for season 8. Last season, Rabe guest-starred as Lavinia Richter, the mother of Benjamin Richter, a.k.a. Mr. Jingles. Rabe also worked with Murphy on the series Nip/Tuck.
Angelica Ross
Prior to joining American Horror Story, Angelica Ross worked on Murphy's fellow FX series, Pose, in one of the main roles. The actress was then cast in 1984 in the role of Rita, the nurse at Camp Redwood whose real name turned out to be Donna Chambers. Ross has stated that she would enjoy returning to the series but was unsure if Murphy wanted her back. It turned out he was a fan of her work in 1984 since she will be present in season 10 and possibly beyond.
Finn Wittrock
Finn Wittrock is another fan-favorite actor who has been relatively absent in the last few seasons. He made his American Horror Story debut in Freak Show as one of the show's most memorable villains, Dandy Mott. The following season he portrayed two roles, Tristan Duffy and Rudolph Valentino. Wittrock played minor roles in Roanoke and 1984 so hopefully, he returns to more of a lead in season 10. Aside from the horror anthology, Wittrock has also worked with Murphy on The Normal Heart, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, and the upcoming series, Ratched.
