As more of American Horror Story season 10’s winter residents of Provincetown take the black pills, fans have developed a theory that Doris Gardner will also become a vampire in Double Feature. The 10th season of AHS introduced new characters in a sinister Cape Cod town, following a family who stays for the winter as struggling screenwriter Harry Gardner tries to break his writer’s block. Harry discovers that the beach town’s off-season houses talented writers like him who use the area as inspiration. As he gets to know the award-winning artists more, he finds out that they take mysterious black pills that give talented users intense inspiration, while having the eerie side effect of becoming a blood-sucking vampire.

Harry quickly discovers that many of the permanent and seasonal residents, even show creator Ryan Murphy, are vampires who have taken the pill. Austin informs Harry that the pill only works if the user is already talented, otherwise people become the pale, almost inhuman vampire creatures that tried to attack his wife Doris (Lily Rabe) and daughter Alma. Now that both Harry and Alma have taken the pill to augment their talents in writing and violin playing, many are speculating that the stir-crazy, unappreciated pregnant Doris will take one of her husband’s black pills as well.

A fan theory on Reddit by theralphamale suggests that one of the clips of a Pale Person in American Horror Story season 10’s trailer is actually Doris after she has taken the black pill. The image shows a female Pale Person that hasn’t yet been seen in the first two episodes, appears to wear the same grey cardigan and Ugg boots Doris was seen in earlier, and, when zoomed in, the transformed face resembles AHS actress Lily Rabe. Both Harry and Alma have been quite cruel to Doris after taking the black pills, telling her in their rages that she’s not as talented as them, suggesting she’s not actually a skilled interior designer. Seeing what the pill has done to her husband and daughter and wanting desperately to prove she’s just as talented, she’ll likely take one herself, which will prove she’s not really talented and tragically turn her into a terrifying phantom-like Pale Person vampire.

Doris as a pale person in AHS Red Tide

Even without having to take the black pill, there have already been some of the town’s vampiric signs with Doris in the first two AHS season 10 episodes. Upon entering the town, she was obsessed with Lyme Disease, worrying about blood-sucking ticks infecting her and Alma. Before Harry had taken The Chemist's black pill and known the blood-appetizing effects, Doris had thrown up and immediately craved red meat, delaying her dinner plans. She explained that she was too far along in the pregnancy for it to be morning sickness, and the red meat craving would take on a new meaning in the following episode. Once Harry took the black pill, he had an intense craving for raw red meat, which the market is heavily stocked with, due to the residents' need to extract the blood. It’s possible Doris had already begun some sort of vampire transformation upon entering the town, or something sinister happens to babies, even unborn, when in Provincetown, as hinted at by Karen reluctantly giving Belle Noir a baby in a bag.

All signs seem to point to Doris taking the black pills and becoming a monstrous Pale Person vampire. It’s assumed the change won’t occur until later in the series considering AHS season 10’s Red Tide promo video showed her giving birth to her baby, though some believe this may actually be a flashback. Since Provincetown’s talented vampires seem to be using live babies for an unknown reason, it’s possible her baby will either become a victim of a vampire feast or be used for testing. From what American Horror Story has shown of Doris so far, it seems inevitable that she takes the black pill in an effort to better her doubted talents, understand the pills’ power, and reconnect with her now combative family.
