This year will see Warner Bros. and DC Films expand the reaches of the DC Extended Universe with highly anticipated pictures Wonder Woman and Justice League making their way to theaters. With the addition of each new film in big franchises such as these, the introduction of new characters is sure to be included. There are many new characters that fans are eager to see, but this will be a big year for Amber Heard. She will first be debuting as Mera in Justice League before later having a bigger role in Aquaman in 2018.
Heard's look in the costume has already been made public, but fans haven't had the chance to see her in action. While there is no indication how big of a role she will have in Justice League, her big break should be Aquaman, and now it appears Heard is preparing for it.
French makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis posted a new picture on Instagram of her with Heard teasing the beginning of their working relationship, presumably for Aquaman. There is basically no chance this collaboration could be for a different project as Heard's known projects are all completed with the exception of Aquaman. That said, Inglessis and Heard have had a working relationship for years, as she has done Heard's makeup for red carpets and photoshoots in the past, as evident by Inglessis' portfolio. However, the hashtags attached seem to make it clear they're re-teaming for Aquaman specifically.
It should be stated from the top that this is not a sign of production beginning on the project. Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, recently said production won't begin for four to five months, so it is impossible that filming of any stage could be happening. So why are the two working together already? There are a few options that we should consider. Most likely, they could be doing a costume test and the makeup work was done as well so everybody could get on the same page as for how she will look once production begins. Another option could be the makeup was needed for promotional materials, with the marketing department needing usable images of Mera to work with moving forward.
One other option that is a reach at this point could be a sign of additional filming beginning sometime soon for Justice League. The film will inevitably have reshoots at some point this year, and it is possible that Mera could be involved with that. However, as there have been no previous reports of reshoots beginning soon, this option is unlikely. It may be the cast that the true reasoning behind the photo isn't revealed for some time, but it does go to show that DC is staying ahead of the game if they are already working on getting Aquaman ready to go.
