Amazon's The Tick Will Have Heavy Presence at SDCC 2017

Shortly following the full-season order for the new Amazon original series, the latest word on The Tick has the new show starring Peter Serafinowicz as the eponymous blue superhero all set to enjoy a heavy presence at San Diego Comic Con 2017. Based in part on the satirical character created by Ben Edlund in 1986 as a newsletter mascot for the New England Comics retail chain of Boston, Massachusetts, the property quickly spawned into a full-fledged comic book series in 1988.

Serving to pay mock tribute to some of the more popular American superhero fare offered by DC Comics and Marvel Comics, The Tick has since been adapted twice for television on FOX in the forms of an original animated series from 1994 and the short-lived live-action series from 2001. And after premiering the pilot episode from the third small screen iteration during pilot season on Amazon last year, Serafinowicz is primed to don the infamous blue suit next in a series that is expected to have an significant presence at SDCC 2017.

According to Deadline, series creator and executive producer Edlund will be on hand for the duration of SDCC 2017, with an unannounced The Tick panel in the offing -- with series stars Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman, and Jackie Earle Haley expected to make an appearence. In addition, the House of Bezos will be hosting a multi-room interactive experience located across the street from SDCC to help acquaint prospective viewers with the show's part-action part-comedy superhero world.

What's more, SDCC attendees can be on the look out for a 20-foot tall animatronic head meant to resemble the superhero on the convention hall floor -- complete with user-intuitive controls that will allow fans to manipulate the character's facial expressions. By all accounts, Amazon is hoping that its first foray into the contemporary superhero genre will prove to be a hit with fans walking around SDCC later next month.

Following several iterations of the cult-classic character in comic book panels and on TV going on some 30-plus years now, hopefully this newest version of The Tick finds a wider audience with Amazon subscribers than it did in 2001 on FOX. Serafinowicz definitely filled out the daunting figure that is the comical blue superhero in the show's pilot episode, so here's to hoping that the rest of season 1 proves to be up to snuff.

The Tick season 1 will debut on Amazon starting August 25, 2017.
