Viewers will soon be closer than ever to recreating the horsepower-obsessed antics of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, now that The Grand Tour is set to become a video game on both PS4 and Xbox One systems. The plan is to deliver a racing experience that captures the tone of the Amazon series by putting players in the driver’s seat to undertake the unique challenges faced by the show’s hosts as they tour the globe in everything from extravagant supercars to unique beaters.

Rather than deliver a complex racing simulator in the vein of Gran Turismo, Amazon aims to offer players a more arcade-like experience, with “four-player split-screen mode, so players can race against each other in-person” and “over-the-top power-ups like High Tea, which spills tire-shredding cups and saucers, and More Horsepowers, which lets you blow past the competition.” Moreover, it seems as though the game will function in part as an enhanced viewing experience of The Grand Tour season 3 by featuring “seamless transition from show footage to gameplay, and new voiceover from Clarkson, Hammond and May.”

New episodes of The Grand Tour and the game will be made available through Amazon weekly following the season 3 premiere, allowing players to experience the "cars, locations and surprises from each week’s episode.” In addition to several screenshots, check out a full synopsis of The Grand Tour Game below:

Amazon Game Studio's The Grand Tour

“Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are bringing high-jinks and hot laps to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in The Grand Tour Game, an episodic racing game based on the hit Prime Original series, The Grand Tour. Created by Amazon Game Studios, The Grand Tour Game transports players to exotic locations, where they'll drive the world's most interesting cars, and participate in the show's outrageous challenges. New episodes of The Grand Tour Game will be added weekly during Season 3 of the show, capturing cars, locations, and surprises from each week's episode.”

With the premiere date of The Grand Tour season 3 still TBD, the game’s release date is also unknown. The same goes for its retail price, which, given its episodic nature may well take a page from Telltale’s pricing strategy for the likes of its The Walking Dead and Batman games. With any luck, perhaps the game's announcement means a planned premiere date isn't too far behind.
