This week Amazon’s Prime Video will add two new TV series, one mystery thriller and one crime drama, as well as a transatlantic drama and a teen rom-com. The last two years have seen some changes to release models, with theatrical releases often abandoned in favor of streaming releases. Even when movies have received larger releases, they have started arriving on streaming platforms like Amazon’s Prime Video faster than they once would have. As well as receiving newer movies sooner, viewers more comfortable staying at home also have access to a huge range of new TV series and older content.

Earlier in April, Amazon Prime Video added the award-winning Hacks season 1 in its entirety. Hacks season 2 is coming and the comedy series promises to continue exploring the relationship between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary stand-up comic, and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), a comedy writer who is helping her to create new material. Amazon also added the movie Joe Bell to their streaming platform in early April. Joe Bell tells the true story of a man who walked across America giving anti-bullying speeches at schools in 2013 after his son, Jadin Bell, was bullied for his sexuality.

While some streaming services operate on a weekly release model, with most of their releases happening on the same day of the week, Amazon’s Prime Video releases on a monthly schedule. This means that Prime Video’s new content can arrive on different days throughout the week and month, although there tends to be a weighting towards the first day of the month. Prime Video’s content releases fall into three main categories: new movies and TV shows that are releasing on Amazon’s Prime Video before anywhere else (often these are Amazon Originals), movies that have seen a theatrical release and TV shows that have appeared on broadcast television, but are now receiving their first appearance on streaming, and older content that is coming to Amazon’s Prime Video for the first time as part of their expansive back catalog. Here are the best new movies and TV shows coming to Amazon Prime Video in April 2022.

Bang Bang Baby draws influence from the true story told in the documentary Lady ‘Ndrangheta about Marisa Merico who ended up working for her father’s crime family in Milan when she was still a teenager. Bang Bang Baby stars Arianna Becheroni as Alice and Antonio Gerardi as Nereo. Bang Bang Baby will originally only be available in Italian with English subtitles, but will release an English dubbed version to Amazon’s Prime Video platform on July 1).
