A streaming blog study has analyzed the major streaming services to see which gives you the best value for money, and Amazon Prime Video comes out on top. Prime Video is the video streaming service provided by the technology conglomerate Amazon, which is owned by Jeff Bezos, the world's wealthiest man.

Prime Video has steadily grown as a streaming service, particularly in the past five years, adding a number of original TV shows and movies to the platform. As a result, it is considered among the top streaming services in the world, alongside Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV+ and the newly launched HBO Max.

Now, the UpNext blog, which is part of the streaming aggregation service Reelgood, has revealed that Prime Video provides the best value for money out of all the major streaming services. The blog collated all of their data from the six major streaming services, and analyzed exactly how many TV shows and movies subscribers have access to per dollar they spend each month. And Amazon Prime Video was the clear winner, with the service giving subscribers access to 247 TV shows per dollar they spend each month, as well as 1,427 movies per dollar spent each month. Netflix comes in second to Amazon Prime according to both metrics, providing 149 TV shows per dollar spent, and 291 movies per dollar spent. On the other end of the spectrum lies Apple TV+, with a meager 4 TV shows per dollar, and 1 movie per dollar. You can see the two tables with all of the statistics below.

UpNext also used IMDB scores to determine which of the TV shows and movies on each service are considered "high quality" by audiences, and broke the statistics down in that category too. When it comes to quality, Netflix wins out for TV shows, but Prime Video still edges it where movies are concerned. The blog ends by recommending that audiences who want to stream great movies are better off with Amazon Prime, while those who want original TV programming should opt for Netflix.

The news is somewhat surprising. While the trio of Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video have long been known as the three big players in the streaming space, Netflix tends to hog the headlines thanks to its established position as the dominant streaming service. It also gets attention thanks to the sheer volume of original content on the platform, and the financial muscle it flexes when producing those shows and movies. But, these statistics prove that Amazon Prime actually provides the best value for money.

The sheer volume of shows and movies on the platform means that Prime Video can provide audiences with a diverse range of watching options, even if the majority of those shows and movies aren't Amazon originals. On the other end of the spectrum, Apple TV+ clearly has a long way to go to catch up to their competitors, while Disney+ is lucky it has access to the Disney catalog, including Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars, otherwise its offerings would be just as disappointing as that of Apple TV+.
