Although most casual audience members would typically think that Netflix offers up the most movies to stream, Amazon Prime actually has a much larger library. That includes their own original releases from recent years and plenty of classics from the past for those subscribers who are feeling a little nostalgic.

The Farrelly Brothers were among the most prominent and prolific comedy directors of the '90s. After all, the first two films they helmed were Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin, which have both gone on to become comedy classics. Their third release came in 1998.

That was There's Something About Mary, which helped continue to catapult Cameron Diaz into superstardom. The story focuses on a guy (Ben Stiller) who gets a second shot at his dream girl (Diaz) after a disaster of a date in high school. It grossed $369 million and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Orlando (85%)

Tilda Swinton in Orlando

In terms of fame and popularity, Orlando might rank last on this list but those who have seen it can attest to how great it really is. Hitting theaters in 1992, this movie is based on Orlando: A Biography, written by Virginia Wolfe in 1928.

This unique plot focuses on an androgynous nobleman who is promised many riches by Queen Elizabeth I on the odd condition that he never withers or grows old. It was met with positive acclaim, with the performance of Tilda Swinton as Orlando getting praised.

Eat Drink Man Woman (88%)

Chu from Eat, Drink, Woman

It's the first foreign language picture on this list and it was released in 1994. Of note, it was helmed by Ang Lee, the Oscar-winning visionary director who would go on to get behind the camera for Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonBrokeback Mountain, and Life of Pi.

Eat Drink Man Woman tells the tale of family drama and centers on a widowed chef and his three daughters, who all challenge some of their culture's traditions. It was ultimately nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, an award Ang Lee would win a few years later.

The Spanish Prisoner (89%)

The Spanish Prisoner

One of the trends on this list is that there are directors who are quite talented. Pulitzer Prize-winning David Mamet is yet another one, known for his work both on the stage and on the big screen. It could be argued that his best work was 1997's The Spanish Prisoner.

The storyline follows some titillating corporate espionage, as an employee at a major company considers possibly going rogue and betraying them. The wonderful cast includes Campbell Scott, Steve Martin, Ricky Jay, Rebecca Pidgeon, and Clark Gregg.

Much Ado About Nothing (90%)

Denzel Washington and Kenneth Branagh in Much Ado About Nothing

There have been so many versions of this story told over the years. Originally, it's a William Shakespeare play and had cinematic versions that date back to 1913. However, the most notable is certainly 1993's Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Part of its success comes from the stellar cast of Branagh, Michael Keaton, Emma Thompson, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington, Kate Beckinsale, and more. Though it's arguably the best adaptation, others have been made since including a 2012 film version.

Star Trek: First Contact (92%)

Defiant in Star Trek First Contact

Next up, there are four entries tied with a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which have been sorted by their total number of reviews. The Star Trek franchise is one of the most popular and longest-running in historyFirst Contact, released in 1996, was the eighth installment.

It was also the second to feature the cast of the Star Trek: The Next Generation. The plot sees the core characters travel back in time to stop an alien force from conquering Earth. With enticing action, stunning visuals, and beloved characters, it's no wonder this worked so well.

Although the reviews were clearly positive, this is more notable for how the cast became big stars. That includes the likes of Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, and Matthew McConaughey. In fact, some of McConaughey's lines have become pop culture staples. It was directed by the acclaimed Richard Linklater and is a cult classic.

Antz (92%)

Main characters from Dreamwork's Antz

What are the chances that there would be multiple movies released about ants in the same calendar year? It surprisingly happened in 1998 when Disney came out with A Bug's Life and DreamWorks produced Antz, which hit theaters about a month prior.

This was actually the first film by DreamWorks Animation and one of the earliest done by computer animation. The story focuses on a neurotic ant (Woody Allen) who leads an uprising in an effort to impress a princess (Sharon Stone). Critics raved about the animation style and voice cast.

Election (92%)

Reese Witherspoon in Election

The late '90s feel like they ultimately belonged to Reese Witherspoon. She had a hit like Pleasantville in 1998 and then 1999 saw her take it to the next level with Cruel Intentions. While that was a bigger commercial hit, Witherspoon's performance in Election that year was her true shining moment.

This MTV film is based on a novel of the same name. It follows a popular teacher (Matthew Broderick) who sabotages the candidacy of an overachieving student he dislikes (Witherspoon) as she runs for student body president. Witherspoon nabbed a Golen Globe nomination while the film was up for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars.

Ghost In The Shell (96%)

Ghost in the Shell

The top slot goes to another foreign film and another animated one. Initially released in 1995, Ghost in the Shell was something of a box office flop. Over the years it has not only become a cult classic but is also one of the most influential movies of all time. Sci-fi flicks like The Matrix grabbed a lot from this.

Set in a futuristic Japan, Ghost in the Shell centers on a cyborg agent sent to track down a master hacker known as the Puppet Master. Everything from the plot to the visuals to the themes were all praised. A live-action remake starring Scarlett Johansson was met with a mixed response.
