When it comes to a catalog of movies available to stream, nobody has more than Amazon Prime. They certainly offer up a ton of possibilities but what they have from the 2010s is arguably the most unique of them all. It's a versatile group that includes great films from nearly every genre.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (7.7)

It's pretty amazing to consider that the Mission: Impossible franchise has been running since way back in 1996. Somehow, it's pulling off the rare feat of managing to improve over the years. The most recent entry, 2018's Mission: Impossible - Fallout, was arguably the best.

In fact, it has the highest rating on IMDb of the series. This installment sees Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) on another absurd attempt to save the world. The team from prior films returned but the addition of the likes of Henry Cavill and Vanessa Kirby were welcome. With a plot full of twists and insane action, it's a non-stop thrill ride.

The Broken Circle Breakdown (7.8)

The Broken Circle Breakdown

You couldn't find two movies more different in tone than the previous entry and this one. Released in 2012, The Broken Circle Breakdown is a musical romantic drama seeped in a surprising difference of religious beliefs between the two lovebirds.

It stars Johan Heldenbergh and Veerle Baetens as the main couple. One is extremely religious while the other is a hopeless atheist romantic. They fall in love but see their relationship tested when their daughter falls ill. The Belgian drama won Best Foreign Film at the César Awards.

Manchester By The Sea (7.8)

Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea

There weren't many films in the past decade with a more powerful cast than Manchester by the Sea. It's hard to top the likes of Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, and Kyle Chandler. In fact, Affleck won Best Actor at the Academy Awards, with the film also earning Best Original Screenplay.

This 2016 picture tells the story of a man who is broken by the death of his children (which he blames himself for) who has to return to his hometown to raise his teenage nephew after his brother passes away. It was one of the most critically-acclaimed movies of the 2010s.

Knives Out (7.9)

The family stands outside fazed in Knives Out.

This is the most recent movie on this list, hitting theaters in late 2019. Directed and written by Rian Johnson, it is a throwback to whodunit films of the past but with a modern twist. The story surrounds the murder of a rich patriarch and the investigation into who from his family may have killed him.

Right off the bat, this was highly-anticipated due to the incredible cast of Chris Evans, Daniel Craig, Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Lakeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, and so many more. It was up for Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars and was nominated for several Golden Globes as well.

Short Term 12 (8.0)

Kaitlyn Dever and Brie Larson in Short Term 12

Every once in a while, you can find an independent film that boasts a cast who all go on to become stars. That's the case with 2013's Short Term 12. Brie Larson, Lakeith Stanfield, Rami Malek, Kaitlyn Dever, and Stephanie Beatriz have all become big deals in Hollywood.

This emotional film centers on the employees and kids at a temporary home for troubled or abandoned teenagers. The powerful performances by Larson and Dever helped boost their careers, while director Destin Daniel Cretton proved his outstanding talent.

The Avengers (8.0)

The Avengers standing together for the first time during the battle of New York

It's easily the biggest blockbuster on this list. The Marvel Cinematic Universe debuted in 2008 and the first few films released built up to the end of Phase One, which was the highly ambitious 2012's The Avengers. Nothing like this had ever been brought to the big screen before it.

Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye joined forces to stop Loki and his Chitauri army in this near-perfect comic book flick. It outgrossed every previous entry and was the first MCU movie to surpass $1 billion at the box office. Without this success, the franchise might not have become as huge as it is today.

The Handmaiden (8.1)

The four main characters from the movie The Haindmaiden 2016

The second and final foreign language movie on this list is The Handmaiden. Arriving in 2016, this South Korean thriller is one of the more unique and unexpected entries included. Inspired by a 2002 novel titled Fingersmith, it competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Handmaiden is set in the 1930s and tells the story of a maid hired to work for an heiress. However, she is secretly a pickpocket hired as part of a scheme to help defraud, seduce, and lock up the woman.

How To Train Your Dragon (8.1)

Hiccup and Toothless eye to eye in How To Train Your Dragon 2

For the most part, the world of computer-animated movies has been dominated by Disney and Pixar. Some other films manage to breakthrough from time to time and Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon did just that back in 2010. It was so successful that it spawned a trilogy.

The story is about a young Viking who wants to be a dragon slayer like the rest of his tribe but once he finally captures a dragon, he befriends him and attempts to change his people's views on the creatures. It was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards.

Warrior (8.2)

Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton in Warrior

Warrior feels like one of those movies that came around at just the right time. Mixed martial arts rose in popularity in a major way during the 2010s and this was released in 2011. Still, it was a box office failure, taking in just $23.3 million on a $25 million budget.

Regardless, it was met with high praise. Warrior focuses on two estranged brothers with very different lives who end up competing in an MMA tournament against each other. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are tremendous as the brothers, while Nick Nolte's turn as their dad led to an Oscar nomination.

Inception (8.8)

The hallway fight in Inception

Following the success of The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan was trusted enough as a director to finally get the budget needed ($160 million) to deliver his highest concept film. 2010's Inception is about a thief who leads a team on infiltrations into the subconscious of his targets to extract or implant information.

The film was praised for the unique concept, breathtaking visuals, strong acting, and incredible score. Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, and Tom Hardy led a tremendous cast. It made $836.8 million, won four Academy Awards, and remains a fixture in pop culture over a decade later.
