Just in time for Halloween, Amazon has announced that its new original series Lore will be premiering Friday, October 13, on Prime Video along with a new teaser. The spooky anthology series is based on the popular podcast of the same name, which attracts an average of five million monthly listeners and explores the darker and frightening side of history behind modern-day myths and legends presented in, what is described as, a "campfire experience".

The podcast was first created by Aaron Mahnke in 2015 and has since garnered critical acclaim receiving the iTunes "Best of 2015" Award, the award for the "Best History Podcast" by the Academy of Podcasters in July 2016 and was included on multiple top lists by The Atlantic and Entertainment Weekly last year. So it's no surprise that in April 2016 it was announced that Mahnke, as co-executive producer, would be teaming up with Propogate Content and Valhalla Entertainment to turn his podcast into a TV series, which was then picked up by Amazon Studios in October 2016 with showrunner Glen Morgan on board.

Now, a new press release offers an official description of series, a new teaser (check out the video above) and new details about which episodes of the podcast we will be bought to life on the small screen. Here is the official series description released by Amazon:

Callie McClincy Lore Amazon

“Lore,” featuring Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Kristin Bauer van Straten (“True Blood”), Adam Goldberg (“Fargo”), Holland Roden (“Teen Wolf”), Colm Feore (“House of Cards”), and Campbell Scott (The Amazing Spider-Man), combines documentary footage, narration, historical mixed media, and cinematic scenes to bring to life terrifying, but true stories. Celebrating the origins of the horror genre, “Lore” explores the real-life tales behind pop culture’s most legendary horror myths, such as vampires, changelings, werewolves, séances, and possessed dolls."

Lore is going to be a first for Amazon. While the streaming services offers many original series like Transparent and The Tick, Lore is going to be one of the first horror series for the service as well as its first anthology series, which will bring some fan-favorite podcast episodes to life, such as "the tale of a boy given a doll that seems to have a sinister life of its own; a family whose home appears to be inhabited by a spirit from the other side; and a German village that hunts for a murderous creature."
