While there's no release date or trailer for fans to get stuck into, there is still a lot of excitement surrounding the television series of The Lord Of The Rings, which is being created by Amazon. A lot of money has been put into this show, and the expectations are certainly high due to the quality of the story and the movies that Peter Jackson created.

This series is set to be a prequel, taking place prior to Frodo's journey with the Fellowship, however, that doesn't mean that there won't be characters from the story that people are familiar with popping up. While people such as Aragorn and Gandalf could likely have big roles, there is also a chance for some of the smaller, supporting characters from the movies to be featured a lot more this time around.

Sauron

How Sauron Turned Evil

Although Sauron is the ultimate villain of The Lord Of The Rings, he isn't really showcased much at all within the movies, especially in his physical form. He is talked about more than he is seen, but hopefully within the Amazon series that can be put right.

Even though it's a prequel, Sauron is very likely to end up being the main villain once again, therefore he needs to be shown a lot more this time. Rather than simply being a dark figure who people should clearly be scared of, the series needs to inject more personality into the character, which would raise the stakes further.

Isildur

Isildur in Lord of the Rings.

Speaking of Sauron, someone who obviously has a big history with him is Isildur, and with the show being set further in the past, he could end up being a big part of the show. He is only shown briefly in the movie trilogy, where he opts to not destroy the One Ring, instead, keeping it for himself, which sets up the journey for Frodo.

It would be interesting if he is made into one of the lead characters within the Amazon show because there is a lot that can be tapped into with him. Showing his personality and explaining his own thought process would certainly make him an intriguing character.

Boromir

Boromir

Boromir is one of the most misunderstood characters from The Lord Of The Rings, and while he's heavily featured in the first movie as a member of the Fellowship, but because he dies, Boromir ends up being seen as a supporting character. However, because he's so complex, it would be interesting for Amazon to showcase him in his younger days.

There's a good chance that the history of men and Gondor itself is going to play a key role within the television series, especially explaining Aragorn's backstory. Therefore, there's a good opportunity to put Boromir into this series, making him one of the most dominant fighters along the way.

Faramir

While Boromir would be a good character to flesh out within the television series, so would his younger brother, Faramir. He would obviously have to be a lot younger in this prequel series, but there's no reason that he cannot be shown throughout.

Highlighting the complex relationship he has with his father and how he was with his brother would be very interesting to people as Faramir does have one of the most emotional storylines within the trilogy.

Gríma Wormtongue

Grima Wormtongue looking angry in The Lord of the Rings

Gríma Wormtongue is often one of the most underrated villains within The Lord Of The Rings, and he is certainly someone who has a big impact on the overall story, helping Saruman a lot. This television show could really explain how that relationship came about and why he's trusted so much.

He's a very sneaky character who worms his way into situations and positions of power, and that is the type of character that works really well on a television show like this. While there's going to be lots of action, it would also be nice to have a storyline such as this running alongside of it.

Théoden

King Theoden wearing armor in front of his army in The Lord of the Rings.

By the time that The Lord Of The Rings rolls arond, Théoden is someone who is past his best years and while he fights bravely and showcases leadership, he is certainly not in his prime. With the prequel rolling back the years in Middle Earth, it would open up the chance to show him when he was younger.

Théoden is a very interesting character who has a lot of heart and skill, and therefore it's easy to see how the show could make him one of the lead heroes throughout the series, being someone that everybody can get behind as a truly good person.

Saruman

Saruman Lord of the Rings

Saruman is a perfect example of a supporting character who should be given a lot more attention by the Amazon series. He is one of the most powerful and dominant figures within Middle Earth, and showing his true rise to power and the plotting and backstabbing that he does along the way would make for a gripping storyline.

He gets a decent amount of screentime within The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, but audiences always wanted to see more and know more about the wizard. Because he has such a big part to play in the events that transpire, giving him a featured slot just makes sense.

Elrond

Hugo Weaving as Elrond in The Hobbit Lord of the Rings Movie

Hugo Weaving plays Elrond within the movie trilogy, and he is shown as a very wise and skilled character who is someone that is widely respected. However, within The Lord Of The Rings, Elrond's fighting days are behind him, instead, he is mainly used to provide council.

But because this show will be set prior to those movies, a younger Elrond can be shown, which could lead to him having a lead role this time around. As one of the most powerful people in Middle Earth, it would make sense to show him a lot more if possible.

Arwen

While Elrond is likely going to be a main character in the series, it would also be great to see his daughter, Arwen, be showcased a lot more than she was within the movies. While she had some great moments, there's no doubt a lot more than can be explained, especially with her backstory.

The romance between her and Aragorn would be a good storyline to really delve into and explain, as it is shown within the trilogy, but the history is only touched upon. It would be more interesting to see that fully developed and a television show has the ability to do just that.

Galadriel

One of the big characters that people are expecting to see within the Amazon series is Galadriel. She's one of the most powerful people within Middle Earth, but that was only shown in glimpses within Peter Jackson's trilogy, and fans want to see more from her.

This character is both soft and kind, yet also someone who can be for unforgiving and scary at points as well. There have been reports that Galadriel will be involved in the show, which is positive, but hopefully this time around, she will be one of the lead roles to really showcase her abilities.
