John Krasinski heads to South America in the action-packed trailer for season 2 of Amazon’s Jack Ryan series. The series is the latest iteration of Tom Clancy’s most famous creation, one who has lived many onscreen lives thanks to Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. Krasinski’s take on the character isn’t too far removed from the ones that have come before him, but due to Amazon’s increased interest in turning its television series into blockbuster-like binge events, this Jack Ryan tends to get himself out of trouble with as much aplomb as he gets himself into it.

The first season hit in the summer of 2018, and Amazon already knew it would be a success as the house that Bezos built ordered a second season before the series even premiered. Apparently, the streamer wants to be in the Jack Ryan business (or just Jack business, as a new Jack Reacher series is in development there) for the foreseeable future as season 3 was green lit earlier this year. That’s a smart move on behalf of the streamer as Krasinski has seen his stock in Hollywood rise since becoming a double threat by directing and acting in the horror hit A Quiet Place, and writing and directing its upcoming sequel.

With Krasinski everyone’s favorite unlikely action star, now feels like the right time for Jack Ryan to go big in season 2. And from the looks of the full trailer that’s exactly what the series plans to do, as it shifts its attention away from the Middle East to focus on Venezuela and some nefarious schemes by those pesky Russians that would see the country become a nuclear power. Aside from re-igniting the Cold War, season 2 of Jack Ryan looks as though it will also borrow from certain aspects of Clear and Present Danger. Check out the full trailer, official poster, and season 2 synopsis below:

“In the second season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, after tracking a potentially suspicious shipment of illegal arms in the Venezuelan jungle, CIA Officer Jack Ryan, portrayed by Krasinski, heads down to South America to investigate. As Jack’s investigation threatens to uncover a far-reaching conspiracy, the President of Venezuela launches a counter-attack that hits home for Jack, leading him and his fellow operatives on a global mission spanning the United States, UK, Russia, and Venezuela to unravel the president’s nefarious plot and bring stability to a country on the brink of chaos.”

The trailer certainly has its fair share of action set pieces, most of which are unsurprisingly focused on Krasinski. Though the trailer offers a glimpse at Noomi Rapace’s Harriet 'Harry' Baumann, it doesn’t offer any details as to what she’ll be up to. At any rate, fans of the first season — and Jack Ryan in particular — won’t have to wait too long to see what happens next, as the new season hits in early November.
