Peacock is a streaming service with a lot to offer, and for Amazon Fire TV users, downloading the app is a piece of cake. It's incredibly easy to start watching shows like The Office and Modern Family, though it didn't always use to be like this.

NBC launched the Peacock app in April 2020, hoping to be yet another competitor to Netflix, Hulu, etc. While Peacock debuted with a solid selection of shows and movies to watch, actually getting it on certain devices proved to be a chore. The service initially launched without support for Roku or Amazon Fire TV — two of the largest streaming platforms in the world. There were ways to sideload the app through third-party websites, but Fire TV owners were ultimately left in the dark.

Over a year after Peacock hit the market, Amazon and NBC reached a deal in June 2021 that brought the streaming service to Fire TV gadgets. Peacock for Fire TV officially launched on June 24, and with that being the case, downloading the app on a Fire TV is as easy as it gets. Just navigate to the 'Apps' tab, search for Peacock there, or use the Alexa button on the included remote and say 'Peacock app.' Peacock can be downloaded on "the entire lineup of Fire TV products," including the Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick Lite, and all of televisions with Fire TV built-in.

What Fire TV Users Should Know About Peacock

Peacock app on a smart TV

For Fire TV users that may not be familiar with Peacock, here's a quick rundown of the service. Anyone can download the app and start using it for free, with NBC offering access to "thousands of hours of movies & TV," live TV-esque channels, daily news roundups, and Spanish-speaking content from Telemundo. The next step up is the Peacock Premium plan, which unlocks additional shows/movies, exclusive Peacock Originals, live sports and events (including WWE and Premier League), and next-day access to current NBC titles. Subscribers get all of this for just $4.99/month, but the caveat is that advertisements are still present throughout the app. For folks that want to ditch the ads, Peacock Premium Plus is available for $9.99/month. It includes everything found in Peacock Premium, in addition to ad-free streaming and the ability to download 'select' titles on mobile devices.

In regards to the type of content available on Peacock, there's a mix of everything. Subscribers can watch The OfficeJurassic ParkGhostbustersYellowstone, and Downton Abbey — just to name a few. Along with on-demand titles, the Channels section is an interesting addition not found in most other streaming apps. The SNL Vault channel shows a 24/7 rotation of popular SNL skits, the NBC News Now channel offers daily roundups of the latest news, and there's even a Bob Ross channel that constantly plays episodes of The Joys of Painting.

Peacock may not be the very best streaming app out there, but the fact that it's free to use is fantastic. Furthermore, Fire TV owners can get a 7-day trial of Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus to see if the paid plans are worth it for them. Boot up that Fire TV, give the Peacock app a download, and enjoy!
