Amazon released a new Alexa-enabled smart speaker in May 2023 called the Echo Pop, but how does it stand against the Echo Dot (5th Gen)? The first of its kind, Echo Pop comes in four attractive colors and has a unique design. The smart speaker offers features similar to other popular models in the segment for a competitive price, making buyers wonder whether they should get the Echo Pop or put their money into the popular Echo Dot (5th Gen).

The all-new Echo Pop weighs 196g, making it much lighter than the Echo Dot (5th Gen), which weighs 304g. Both speakers have a distinctive form factor: the Echo Pop has a semi-sphere design, and the Echo Dot has a spherical body. Another key difference between these devices is that the Echo Dot has a built-in LED clock with ambient light sensors that adjust its brightness, a feature that's absent on the Echo Pop.

Regarding features, both the Amazon speakers have built-in Alexa, which offers voice control, not just on the speaker but on other connected smart home devices such as bulbs, thermostats, plugs, and more.

Interestingly, the Echo Dot has an action button, whereas the Echo Pop doesn't. Other controls, such as volume up/down and mic-off, are standard on both devices. What sets the Echo Dot apart is the presence of touch controls on the top. The speakers also features temperature and motion sensors that help users create smart routines, whereas the Echo Pop doesn't.
