While the Amazing Spider-Man movies were never hugely popular among fans the excitement over Spider-Man: No Way Home has led many of the movies' critics to revaluate the two Spidey adventures. And while the movies had a reputation of being too brooding at the time, looking back reveals a lot of humor fans might have forgotten.

Some of the funniest quotes in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 highlight what these movies did right. From Andrew Garfield embracing the quippy nature of the hero to Emma Stone's charm as Gwen Stacy, these movies provided some big laughs in their superhero stories.

Peter Feasts On Meatloaf

Uncle Ben: ''Yeah. Nobody Likes Your Meat Loaf.''

Although Uncle Ben meets the same fate in The Amazing Spider-Man, the movie spends more time with the character than Sam Raimi's version. Martin Sheen plays Ben with appropriate gravitas but also brings some humor to the role.

After Peter gets his powers, he finds that he has an unusually large appetite. When Uncle Ben and Aunt May observe Peter raid the fridge, including May's meatloaf, she comments that he's acting unusual. Ben agrees but he sees the fact that Peter willingly ate the meatloaf as the strangest part.

Gwen Turns Down Cocoa

Gwen: ''No, Dad, I Do Not Want Cocoa. Honestly, I'm 17 Years Old.''

Since starring in these movies, Emma Stone has had an acclaimed career showing considerable versatility and star power. She brings a lot of that talent to the role of Gwen Stacy, including brief moments when she gets to show her comedic chops.

After Peter sneaks into Gwen's bedroom, she panics when her father comes to her door to offer her cocoa. She snaps at him in a hilariously over-the-top way before going on a funny extended excuse about having ''cramps'' and being ''emotional'' which causes her father to happily leave her alone.

Saving Gwen

Peter: ''I'm Going To Throw You Out The Window Now.''

In both the MCU and the Raimi movies, Peter's love interests don't find out he is Spider-Man until the sequel. In The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter tells Gwen during their first date. While a bit reckless, it allows for their charming relationship to grow quickly.

When Lizard attacks their school, Peter dons his Spider-Man costume and saves Gwen. They take a moment to embrace romantically before Peter says, "I'm going to throw you out the window now," and tosses her to safety. The matter-of-fact way he says it and her confused reaction are priceless.

Peter's Does The Laundry

Peter: ''I Was Washing The Flag.''

Aunt May from The Amazing Spider-Man

Garfield's version of Peter Parker does justice to the character's intelligence from the Spider-Man comics. However, while his skills as a scientist are impressive, he is not as quick when it comes to making believable excuses.

May complains that the last time he did the laundry, everything came out red and blue. Peter attempts to cover up the real reason but the best he can come up with is saying that he was washing the flag which May rightly sees as ridiculous.

Spider-Man Vs. The Lizard

Peter: ''You Should See The Other Guy. The Other Guy, In This Instance, Being A Giant Mutant Lizard.''

The Lizard is an iconic villain from the comics, so it was a thrill to see him brought to the big screen in The Amazing Spider-Man. He also makes for a formidable foe for Spider-Man while the movie has fun with the outlandish idea of the villain.

When Peter arrives at Gwen's apartment following a particularly brutal fight, he remarks ''You should see the other guy'' before pointing out that ''the other guy'' was in fact a massive lizard creature.

Uncle Ben's Words Of Wisdom

Aunt May: "Ben Told Me He Made It Up."

Sally Field is another underrated aspect of these movies as Aunt May. Like Martin Sheen as Ben, Field plays the role with a mix of a loving parent and a bit of fun humor. And even after Ben is dead, the funny relationship they shared is put to good use.

When Peter graduates high school, May tells him Ben would impart such wisdom as "Don't just follow the path, make your own trail." Peter recognizes it as a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson which shocks May as Ben told her that he made it up.

Gwen Let's It Slip

Gwen: "Peter!"

The chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone is really the highlight of these movies and their bather is both charming and hilarious. They are particularly good at playing a young couple in the midst of a wild superhero world.

As Peter rushes off to fight Electro, Gwen insists on coming along to help. Seeing that she won't take no for an answer, he uses his web to trap her safely in place before swinging off. She angrily yells after him then realizes she just yelled Spider-Man's secret identity to the world.

Spider-Man In England

Peter: "They Got, Uh, Jack The Ripper. What? They Haven't Caught Jack The Ripper Yet."

If not for the tragic end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the movie sets up an interesting idea about Spider-Man taking his superhero antics to England. When Gwen gets an offer at Oxford, Peter decides he is going with her.

He insists there will still be a need for Spider-Man as England has lots of crime too. He uses the 1800s serial killer Jack the Ripper as an example, pointing out that he still hasn't been caught.

Uncle Ben Makes It Awkward

Uncle Ben: "He's Got You On His Computer."

Though Mary Jane might be the most famous love interest from the Spider-Man universe, these movies make Peter and Gwen a wonderful couple. And part of the charm of their relationship is the awkwardness of a teen romance.

When Uncle Ben picks Peter up from school, he helps add to the awkwardness when he recognizes Gwen. He realizes she's the girl from Peter's screensaver and immediately tells her that much to Peter's horror. The oblivious embarrassing parent moment is perfect.

Peter Confronts A Carjacker

Peter: "My Weakness. Small Knives."

Spider-Man in The Amazing Psier-Man (2012)

Andrew Garfield seems to particularly have fun in the Spider-Man costume, leaning into the quippy nature of Spider-Man as he taunts his enemies. This is especially seen in a hilarious scene when he confronts a man attempting to steal a car.

The man gets fed up with Spider-Man toying with him and pulls a knife. Spider-Man immediately feigns terror, collapsing to his knees and insisting his one weakness is small knives. It really makes Spider-Man into the pesky hero who gets under the villain's skin.
