There are a plethora of smartwatches available to buy, with options ranging from Amazfit to Apple and Samsung. Amazfit is a brand that sells its products in various markets, including the United States, and has recently expanded its watch lineup through the launch of the Amazfit GTR 3 and the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro. Here's a look at how the two new smartwatches compare.

Owned by Zepp Health (previously known as Huami), the company is not only known for its smartwatches and fitness trackers sold under the Amazfit and Zepp brands, but it is also the manufacturer of Mi Band fitness trackers for Xiaomi. The company has gained popularity in recent years and has expanded its portfolio to include earbuds that can track exercises, a smart scale, and even treadmills.

The new Amazfit GTR 3 is priced at $179.99, while the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro costs $229.99. Both smartwatches have a round display with two buttons, one of which is a “Classic Navigation Crown” dial. They also come with the new Zepp operating system that replaces the old Amazfit OS. As to be expected with smartwatches released in 2021, they are feature-packed and come with all-day heart rate monitoring, 24-hour blood oxygen level detection, exercise tracking (more than 150 supported modes), breathing rate measurement, and sleep tracking. They also come with a built-in Alexa assistant as well. Amazfit also provides users with more than 100 watch faces (150 for the Pro) to choose from, including animated and customizable ones.

Is Amazfit GTR 3 Pro Worth An Extra $50?

AmazFit GTR 3 Pro

This is the first time the Amazfit GTR series has gotten a pro model and the extra features result in an additional $50 compared to the standard version. Both smartwatches have an AMOLED display, but the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro has a larger 1.45-inch 480 x 480 screen while the Amazfit GTR 3 sticks with the same 1.39-inch 454 x 454 screen as the Amazfit GTR 2. Another key difference is the addition of a speaker to allow users to take calls on the watch. The addition of a speaker also equips the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro with an advantage in the number of pre-installed mini-apps. For example, there's a voice memo app that isn't available on the standard model. The pro model comes with either leather or fluoroelastomer straps, while the Amazfit GTR 3 has silicone straps.

There is also a temperature sensor on the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro for measuring skin and ambient temperature. Another difference between the two smartwatches is that the Amazfit GTR 3 uses Bluetooth 5.1 LE compared to the GTR 3 Pro's Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. For reference, last year's Amazfit GTR 2 also came with Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, in addition to 3GB of onboard storage and an eSIM version for connecting to a cellular network.

While the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro is the better watch overall, the standard model has an advantage in one key area - battery life. Both smartwatches have the same 450 mAh capacity battery, but the Amazfit GTR 3 is rated to last up to 21 days compared to the 12 days on offer with the Pro model. Battery life is a key factor for anyone picking up a smartwatch and, based on this factor alone, paying an extra $50 for the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro's larger display, speaker, Wi-Fi, and temperature sensor might not be worth it to some buyers.
