The upcoming survival horror game Alone in the Dark - starring David Harbour and Jodie Comer - has announced a free demo for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC fans, and it's available right now. Releasing this October, Alone in the Dark is a "reimagination" of the '90s horror hit.Announcing the news on the PlayStation Blog and across social media, the Alone in the Dark development team revealed that beginning May 25, PlayStation players can download a free standalone demo of the game, known as the Alone in the Dark Prologue. The demo takes place a few weeks before the events of the main game, centering on the young Grace Saunders who is tasked with delivering a letter to Emily Hartwood, played by Jodie Comer. The Prologue should give fans a taste of the iconic manor, reimagined for current-gen platforms, and "the forces preying on its residents' sanity."

PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners can access the demo right now via the respective storefronts, while the PC demo is available through Steam.

Who David Harbour & Jodie Comer's Characters Are

Alone in the Dark fans should already be familiar with Grace Saunders, who appears in both 1993's Alone in the Dark 2 and Jack in the Dark, and her role in the upcoming series revival should set up Emily Hartwood's story. In delivering the letter from the Prologue, Saunders invites Jodie Comie's Hartwood to Derceto Manor where nightmarish horror should be quick to follow. Alone in the Dark will have dual protagonists in Hartwood and Detective Edward Carnby, played by David Harbour, meaning fans will have to decide whether they want to play as Harbour's character or Comer's.

This is the first video game role for both Comer and Harbour, who are best known for their appearances in shows like Killing Eve and Stranger Things, respectively. While both stars have appeared in movies and TV fairly regularly over the last few years, Alone in the Dark marks their first official venture into gaming and it seems like it's been worth waiting for, as both Comer and Harbour's in-game characters make the most of cutting-edge gaming tech, with each appearing as perfect replicas of their real-life selves.

Alone in the Dark is targeting a suitably spooky release date, coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 25 2023. While the free Prologue demo should give players a taste of the full game, there should still be plenty of terrifying surprised in store when the full release comes later this year - and there's lots of time for fans to decide whether they'll be playing as Detective Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood.
