Bill Paxton May Join Tom Cruise in 'All You Need Is Kill'

Bill Paxton in 'Aliens'

It's been several months since Tom Cruise officially signed on for All You Need is Kill (also known as We Are Mortals), the sci-fi actioner based on the Japanese graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

Since then, the Doug Liman-helmed project has brought Emily Blunt on board, and now Bill Paxton is apparently looking to join the cast, as well.

According to Variety, Paxton is in negotiations to star alongside Cruise as the hard-nosed leader of a platoon facing off against an alien race. One of his soldiers, played by Cruise, is killed in action and relives his final battle over and over.

Admittedly, the film’s premise bears some similarities to last year’s surprise hit, Source Code. However, at this early stage, there’s no telling whether or not All You Need is Kill will bear more than a superficial resemblance to the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller. Either way, the addition of top-notch talent like Paxton can only be a good thing.

Fans no doubt remember that Paxton previously went to war with extraterrestrials as Hudson in James Cameron’s Aliens. The veteran actor has also appeared in films like Titanic, Twister and True Lies, but has remained largely on the small screen in the past few years. In addition to his starring role on HBO’s recently concluded Big Love, Paxton starred alongside Kevin Costner on History’s Hatfields & McCoys, earning an Emmy nomination for his performance. He returned to the big screen in last year’s Haywire and has already completed filming on 2 Guns with Mark Wahlberg.

All You Need is Kill is only one of several Cruise-led projects in development. Besides his upcoming release Jack Reacher, the star has another sci-fi film coming - Oblivion - as well as a Van Helsing reboot and the inevitable Mission: Impossible 5.

All You Need is Kill is slated to begin production this fall. Stay tuned to Screen Rant for the latest.
