Warning! SPOILERS for All of Us Are Dead.

Netflix's new zombie drama, All Of Us Are Dead, may have made a mistake with Nam-ra in season 1, but season 2's focus on the halfbies could fix it. All Of Us Are Dead has been massively successful all over the world, becoming Netflix's most popular Korean series since Squid Game. The series' zombie apocalypse seemingly came to an end in season 1, but many questions have remained unanswered and a second season seems very likely.

All Of Us Are Dead mostly takes place in high school, and one of the show's main characters is Nam-ra, the class president. Nam-ra's storyline revolves around her budding romance with fellow classmate, Su-hyeok, however, Nam-ra is bitten by one of All Of Us Are Dead's "halfbies," which are human/zombie hybrids. Due to her condition, she does not rejoin human society with the rest of the survivors at the end of season 1, choosing instead to stay behind in the contaminated zone. Season 1 ends with the surviving students returning to the high school and finding Nam-ra on the roof. The final scene hints at the existence of a group of halfbies.

Nam-ra's transformation could significantly change the importance of her character going into season 2. While All Of Us Are Dead season 1 dealt with Nam-ra's feelings of isolation and exclusion from the rest of the group, season 2 could present great growth for her character if she becomes the leader of the halfbies. This would be a nice elaboration on Nam-ra's position as class president, which is something she harbored feelings of inadequacy towards at the beginning of All Of Us Are Dead season 1. If Nam-ra voluntarily embodies her position as the leader of the halfbies, this would give her character more agency and power, whereas in season 1, she was a somewhat timid and discreet presence.

In addition to this, a stronger focus on Nam-ra's character and the group of halfbies she leads could also allow for a stronger political message in season 2. While season 1 already addressed a number of mature themes (including school violence, oppression, and economic inequality), a large amount of time was spent on the love triangle (or, rectangle) at the show's core; composed of Cheon-san, Su-hyeok, On-jo, and Nam-ra. All Of Us Are Dead season 2's setup is very different from that of season 1, meaning that the writers will be able to change up the thematic focus of the series.

It would make sense for season 2 to deal with halfbies being excluded from society. Therefore, the main characters' storyline would have a stronger political dimension than it did in All Of Us Are Dead season 1. This would also join all of the different storylines together, as opposed to season 1 where the students' storyline felt relatively detached from the political and military storylines other characters were involved in.

Unfortunately, there's also the possibility that given the major shift that occurred at the end of season 1, All Of Us Are Dead season 2 may feel somewhat underwhelming without the dramatic tension caused by the ongoing zombie apocalypse seen in season 1. However, while it's uncertain how the writers will take advantage of season 1's ending in order to develop the story, it's very likely that Nam-ra's character will see great improvement.
