The thrilling and often terrifying zombie-filled Netflix series, All of Us Are Dead, has left fans with some burning questions for a potential second season to answer. The hit show quickly gained popularity thanks to its compelling characters and interesting take on the genre.

From the number of halfbies that survived to Cheong-san and Gwi-nam’s fates, there are quite a few unresolved questions that the series will hopefully tackle in future episodes. The fandom is buzzing with discussions and theories about the most pressing subjects, with most of them centered around the show’s gripping finale.

Why Did The Government Take Lee Byeong-chan’s Wife And Son?

The scientist behind the virus in All of Us Are Dead

Despite the several bombs that destroyed major and surrounding structures in Hyosan, Byeong-chan’s wife and son somehow survive (as zombies) and are taken by the government. The science teacher’s family are his first victims and each step of his twisted experiment on them is recorded.

Since his son is patient 0 of the whole outbreak, it makes sense that they would want to keep him and the second infected person. It’s not clear if they’re doing this because they want to find a cure or discover a way to weaponize the virus, though – based on their actions so far, it’s better to assume the worst.

How Many Halfbies Are Out There With Nam-ra?

Halfbies (as Dae-su calls them), are individuals who react differently to the Jonas virus. While some halfbies like Nam-ra can somewhat control their urges to eat people, others like Gwi-nam give in or even embrace their more horrific sides.

Towards the end of the finale, Nam-ra claims that she has found others like her and she seems to have taken a leadership role among them. The scene with her dramatic jump from the top of the school building towards the other halfbies is intentionally framed to hide whoever is on the ground. There’s no way to tell how many other halfbies are out there and what they plan to do next.

Why Do Some People Become Halfbies?

It’s not exactly explained why some people who get infected turn into regular zombies, while a rare few end up as halfbies like Nam-ra. It’s obvious that it’s not only the smartest characters in All of Us Are Dead become halfbies, as even more dim-witted antagonists like Gwi-nam exhibit the strange effects.

There could be some other factor that determines who turns into a halfbie, or it could also just be pure chance. It would be a game-changer to find out what that factor is, as being able to manipulate the effects of the virus could prove useful for scientists searching for a cure or the government that wants to weaponize it.

How Is Assemblywoman Park Eun-hee Dealing With Hyosan’s Destruction?

Assemblywoman Park proves she’s brave when she’s given the option to resign and save face before the bombing of Hyosan. She’d rather do her job and help survivors recover from the devastation instead of running away from it like the other politicians are doing.

That said, viewers don’t know what she’s up to months after the destruction. Did she end up taking responsibility for the drastic measure? Is she in charge of the camps and in control of the quarantine period for locals? There’s a chance the series may just drop her storyline completely, but it would be interesting to see how she’s dealing with the aftermath of the outbreak.

Is There Any Chance Lee Cheong-san And Yoon Gwi-nam Are Still Alive?

There were numerous heartbreaking deaths in All of Us Are Dead, but Cheong-san’s demise likely hit different for fans who have grown to love the character. Fans may recall how, in an effort to lure the zombies and Gwi-nam away from his friends, he sacrifices himself and is supposedly killed in the explosion.

However, there are a lot of theories floating around that Cheong-san (and perhaps even Gwi-nam) are not dead. Cheong-san’s body is never shown, as all On-jo finds when she returns is the nametag and not his corpse. As for Gwi-nam, it almost seemed like a bad recurring joke that he’s impossible to kill, so it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to imagine that he survived the blast somehow.

Did Any Zombies Survive The Bombing?

While drawing the zombies to some of Hyosan’s buildings to eradicate them was a smart move, it’s not 100% effective at killing every single one of them. Viewers see that a team of soldiers is still sent after the bombing to clean up any remaining zombies.

It’s a process that could take a long time, with no guarantees that some infected could have escaped through the forest. If any zombies did survive the bombs and the soldiers, it would have frightening implications about what could happen next.

Could Another Outbreak Happen Outside Of Hyosan?

Fans know that it only takes one bite to start a new ground zero away from Hyosan. If any zombies make it out through the forest and encounter a living person, it could potentially start another outbreak that escalates as quickly as the first one did in Hyosan High.

Other shows like All of Us Are Dead often rely on expanding the area of infection to keep the story going. It’s almost impossible that there will be no new outbreak in season 2, so it’s just a matter of thinking about where and when that could happen.

Will They Find A Cure?

Of course, with any zombie movie or series, the main focus of the scientists is to find a working cure. So far, fans know that scientists in All of Us Are Dead are confused by how the Jonas virus seems to change or mutate too fast for them to keep up with it.

It’s looking like their best bet would be to experiment on or even work with halfbies like Nam-ra to discover the specific mutation that affects them. The science teacher could be right about a new kind of human evolution, and that type of mutation could be the cure itself – but what would that mean for the rest of the uninfected people?
