Star Wars actress Katee Sackhoff explained her next appearance as Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian season 3, confirming the warrior's mental state ahead of Din Djarin's arrival to Mandalore along with Grogu. In the upcoming season, Djarin will be returning to the Mandalorian homeworld to seek forgiveness for the transgression of removing his helmet. However, he also has the Darksaber, the legendary blade that once belonged to Bo-Katan herself.

Screen Rant recently got the chance to speak with Sackhoff ahead of The Mandalorian season 3, confirming just how broken and lost Bo-Katan will be following her long history that first began during The Clone Wars:

Katee Sackhoff: "I think that she has lost everything. Everything that she thought she wanted, everything that she has fought for so long, is gone. And I think that's where we find her; in this place [that's] almost an "all is lost" moment. I think she's probably questioning everything she's done since the moment we met her over 10 years ago, and the means by which she went about getting to where she's at."

Following her introduction as part of the Mandalorian Death Watch during the Clone Wars, Bo-Katan has lost her home, family, and finally the Darksaber. Existing as a key tool that would have helped her keep Mandalore united during and after the Empire's purge of the world, the fact that Djarin now wields the Darksaber could create some major tension between the two Mandalorians.

The Mandalorian's Bo-Katan Has Lost Everything Since The Clone Wars

The Mandalorian season 3 Bo-Katan

Although Bo-Katan was initially a part of the Death Watch which would become the clan that rescued and raised Din Djarin, she ultimately left after the group's leader Pre Vizsla joined forces with Darth Maul. Likewise, this led to Maul murdering Bo-Katan's sister Satine, the Duchess of Mandalore. Although it was meant to torment Obi-Wan Kenobi, who loved her, the loss of her estranged sister was just as heartbreaking for Bo-Katan, who had no choice but to keep fighting Maul's occupation of Mandalore.

Continuing to fight for Mandalore into the reign of the Empire and becoming the world's new regent, the planet was ultimately lost after the Night of Thousand Tears when Imperial Forces bombed the surface, committing a near-genocide of the Mandalorian people. Likewise, she also lost the Darksaber and its ability to unite the clans after it was taken by Moff Gideon. Not only that, but Bo-Katan likely feels guilt for everything her people have suffered as she never earned the Darksaber as the legends require. As such, she would believe (as others do) that she cursed Mandalore and led to its ruin.

Unfortunately, this is why Bo-Katan will be so broken and lost at the start of The Mandalorian season 3. Having returned to what remains of Mandalore, it will be interesting to see how she reacts to Djarin's arrival and whether she'll ultimately become a rival, especially if she's determined to fight for the Darksaber as she always should have.
