The characters make a viewer feel like they are their friend or personally know them, as each person has their own relatable yet complex story that they try to go through and learn from. Whether a main or supporting role, the ensemble of All American is top-tier and there's a reason fans care so much about them.

Grace James

Grace and Spencer James from All American

A single mom to Spencer and his little brother Dillon, Grace has enough strength for the entire town of Crenshaw. Raising kids without her partner and making ends meet to support her kids, one can still always find with her a smile and ready to help whoever needs her.

She is very passionate about social issues and pushes her family to think outside the box in even the toughest of situations. Grace's ability to push through even the darkest of times, including the loss of her ex-husband, makes her a great television mother.

Patience

Patience is Coop's on-and-off girlfriend whom she met while singing in a local choir. She is Coop's ride-or-die and would do anything to protect her, even if it means protecting her from the law. Patience is always by Coop's side, which causes them to clash at times due to their immense care for each other.

Like her name, Patience is the calm counterpart of Coop, who barely likes to confront anyone when trouble arises. However, she is one of the most honest, non-problematic characters in the series.

Layla Keating

Layla Keating in All American

Layla is one of the most complex characters on the show, and her strength, honesty, and independence as a teenager is one that is rare to find. She has had her own struggles with mental health issues, even being sent away to work on them, and continued to try and live her everyday life up to that point to not let anyone down.

Coming from an extremely successful music producer father, his absence profoundly affected her childhood, which she still is working on recovering from while being there for her peers.

Tamia "Coop" Cooper

An aspiring rapper, Coop is Spencer's best friend and basically his family. After Spencer makes the move to switch schools, Coop is left to figure out what her future is and who she wants to be. She has had many run-ins with the law and the wrong crowd of people in Crenshaw, finding herself in some type of mess with each episode.

Spencer feels the need to save her every time she does this, but Coop's determination to be someone and escape from Crenshaw overpowers his protection almost every single time.

Asher Adams

Asher is a wide receiver for Beverly Hills High, who works extremely hard for what he wants, on and off the field. From day one, Asher came off strong to Spencer due to his feeling of being overshadowed and not having the natural confidence his teammate has.

Unlike his teammates, he comes from a financially struggling family and tends to take his frustrations with things like steroid use. His troubled background gives him a bad reputation, but his ability to support his team and loved ones when they need him most is unmatchable.

Laura Baker

Olivia and Laura Baker in All American

Laura is a strong, resilient attorney in the Beverly Hills area. She risks everything to make sure her family and loved ones are protected when they are in trouble, which has caused her to make some enemies along the way.

Her feisty personality can be intimidating, but her softer side is shown often with her family. She is a great mother to her children and always tries her best to understand them amidst their personal issues.

Coach Billy Baker

Coach Billy Baker in All American

Originally from Crenshaw himself, Billy is an ex-NFL star who sees himself in Spencer. He became the football coach at Beverly Hills High, where his son Jordan is also on the team and can be very hard on him due to his title.

At home, Billy is an understanding father who would do anything for his family, even when he isn't the most perfect human being. His confidence to solve problems immediately when they arise and ability to motivate others to their best potential make him a great television dad/coach.

Jordan Baker

Jordan Baker in All American

The Beverly Hills star quarterback is a very passionate character whose world turns upside down when Spencer joins his football squad. He deals with a lot of issues that root from not getting much attention, causing him to lash out at others and rebel when with his friends.

Her love life may be a bit complicated, but it doesn't stop her from being herself and always wearing her heart on her sleeve. It makes her a character who audiences can really get behind.

Spencer James
